Most of us have at least heard of Nostradamus, even if we are not sure what he is all about. Nostradamus is most widely known as a prophet who has predicted many important historical events throughout history. he lived in 16th century France, and worked as a pharmacologist and astronomer. During his lifetime, he grew famous for his almanacs that predicted weather patterns and astronomical events over the course of a year. It was little known during his lifetime that he made a frequent practice of divining the future. he created many volumes of predictions about the future, which he kept in the form of quatrains. Many people believe that some of his predictions pertain directly to the year 2012, which is rapidly approaching. the quatrains that he wrote are often difficult to interpret, and many theories have sprung up around them.

In regard to 2012, there are two main theories about what may happen according to Nostradamus. Both of these theories involve a comet that enters our solar system suddenly and unexpectedly, and a time of war. Luckily for us, it is also predicted that much of the population will survive whatever calamity that befalls us.

The Popular Comet Theory Most believers of Nostradamus subscribe to this particular theory. in this theory, it is said that a very large comet will suddenly enter into our solar system. in its passing, it will pass very close to the earth. This in itself would not be such a terrible thing, except that comets, as is part of their nature, leave behind them a cloud of ice and rock as they pass through space. It is this cloud of debris that will cause havoc here on Earth.

It is said that Earth will pass through this debris cloud shortly after the comet passes. Subsequently, the citizens of the planet will endure massive meteor showers that will cause much damage and strain disaster relief efforts. Social unrest will come to a head, as there will be shortages of such vital resources as food, fuel and clean water. in this way, this first theory is akin to the second theory, which follows.

The Asteroid Theory This second theory also involves a comet entering into our solar system, though its influence upon Earth is not nearly as direct as it is in the first. in this version of the story, the comet passes well away from Earth, but has either a dramatic collision with or interferes with the orbit of a large asteroid in the Asteroid Belt orbiting past Mars. after this event, the asteroid begins a rapid decent towards the Sun, on a direct collision course with Earth!

As you may know, there is little we can do to stop an asteroid in space, especially one of the size predicted. However, interpreters of the predictions of Nostradamus believe that it is indicated that global leaders come together in the face of this threat and launch a massive strike against the rock. This attack is successful to a great degree, as it breaks apart the asteroid into many smaller pieces. Sadly, though, this is not enough to free the planet from harm entirely.

When this massive cloud of debris strikes the planet, much damage is done to both our population centers and our food-producing capabilities. in dealing with the aftermath, it soon proves to be too much for our world leaders to cope with.

The Two Theories Converge After the initial impact, and the subsequent social disorder, the two different theories begin to agree on what happens next. Mankind is far from destroyed by the impact, but enough damage is caused to significantly hinder our ability to cope.

According to the predictions made by Nostradamus, the first thing that will happen after the impact is an inability for us to produce enough food and fuel to meet the demands of our population. These shortages will cause major social unrest, ultimately causing the failure of current leadership infrastructures all over the globe. This situation will cause a vacuum in the power structure of our world leadership, and there is always somebody willing to fill that type of void.

However, the power that rises to fill the void will not have the best interests of the world at heart. in fact, there are many similarities to what happened when Hitler took power. His agenda was nefarious, yet people flocked to him, believing that he would bring about the change that they wanted to see. It took an alliance of most of the world’s major political powers of the time to bring him down. according to the predictions of Nostradamus, it will be similar after 2012. a great war will be fought, one that will cause much destruction around the globe.

A New Era after the great war that is predicted, humankind will have the opportunity to experience an era of peace and progress that has never been equaled before. in this way, the predictions of Nostradamus converge with other 2012 theories, such as the predictions of the Maya, Hopi Indians and Edgar Cayce.
