In reality, the Mayan calender is a cyclic calender, meaning it runs in a cycle. (Much like a car's odometer, which, when it reaches 999,999 miles, will click back over and start at 000,000 again.) the people who are claiming that the Mayans predicted the end of the world are reading the Mayan calender as if it was a linear calender like ours. It's not. the Mayans did NOT predict the end of the world. they did NOT make any claims of the sort. the people who say that the Mayans said anything like that are people who know NOTHING about the Mayan culture, don't know how to read the Mayan calender, and have NO idea what they're talking about.
Either way, why anyone would attach any sort of significance to a perceived "prediction" made by an ancient civilization that couldn't even predict it's own downfall is beyond logical comprehension. (Not that any end-time theorists in the history of mankind are known for their logic or comprehension skills.) It's particularly baffling that it's Christians who seem to have grabbed on to this, and use it to back up their religion's end-time fantasy, when under ANY other circumstances they would say that the Mayans beliefs were "false beliefs".

I had a dream about 10yrs ago, that something will happen in 2056. I am no prophecy, but I have a strong feeling we will be okay. 2012, maybe nothing catastrophic, maybe just a great change. the Mayans prob just got tired of predicting so far ahead. they prob thought a few thousand yrs was enough of predicting. they aren't here now, so we can't ask them, only speculate.

That is an interesting question that I would like to look into but it was not just the mayans who made this prediction. the same prediction was made by the ancient Egyptians who built the pyramids of Giza to line up with the stars on the 21st. there was also the freemasions who skillfully crafted the same messages secretly onto catholic churches and recently the lost book of nostradamus was found also depicting what will happen on the 21st Dec 2012. It is said on this day the sun will not rise and that the sun will eclipse in the center of our galaxy and with this the north pole and south pole will switch, the icebergs will be no more, the bees will be no more which will bring famine. the entire earth as we know will change if the sun does not rise on the 21st because of the planetary alignment. This alignment is said to only happen every 26 or 27 thousand years and each time it happens brings a new age, just as it did with the ice age. Nostradamus said the earth will get hotter each year until oneday the fish from the sea will be half boiled but this process will be a bad but short lived one and the way to survival is in our choices.

Scientists can predict an eclipse up to the exact second. the mayans were great astrologers. anyway, do you honestly think God would let the human race continue the way it has, breaking every rule he set. what is the point of keeping us, if we are not worthy to live?
