As 2012 nears, more and more people are being attracted to the rumors about the looming destruction of the world. In 2012, it has been said that earth will suffer its demise, causing immense and vast catastrophe all round. there are many predictions about the end of the world that has been around for many years or even centuries, but as the dreaded 2012 approaches, people have raised curiosity about this. you should know that there are many sources about these rumors and some of them are so strikingly accurate.

For example; there are rumors about the Mayan calendar and it is said to be that in December 21, 2012, the world will meet its end. Although there are no concrete predictions about how it will happen, people are still engage on the curiosity to know these things. As a result, they became more worried on what can really happen in the said date. these end of the world predictions have taken people to another perspective. it was like they are being consumed by the rumors, which is why they raise their effort to know more about this possible occurrence.

Another famous prediction about the end of the world is by renowned Nostradamus. Nostradamus is one of the most famous when it comes to this field, as his predictions to other things somewhat clear the doubts of people. he predicted the second World War and also, he predicted the collapse of the Twin Towers. he also predicted that the world will suffer from its end in 2012. he told that there will be a comet; somehow the size of Jupiter, that will struck the plane by that year.

Even though it will not direct hit the planet, his prophecy states that it will cause massive damage to the planet, bringing different events like earthquakes and tsunamis to its utmost and most destructive level. these Nostradamus predictions were so remarkable that even other interpreters regards it in highest possible concern. However, as long as 2012 is at bay, only rumors shall circulate around.

With these worries and apprehensions about the possibility that the world will really suffer from its demise in 2012, many people are still hoping for the best. this is one of the worst scenarios that may forever change the viewpoint of all people. nevertheless, as long as it is not occurring, you should still assume that these are only hearsay. no one ever knows what will be the fate of the planet but it has to be taken care of as early as now in order to save it from further deterioration.

Get out from under your bunker, Earth has survived yet another apocalyptic prediction. yet plenty more people seem willing to throw in the towel and declare that mankind’s last days are at hand. Joel Achenbach, writing for the online magazine Slate, declared that the 21st century will be “the century of disasters,” both natural and man-made. Radio preacher Harold Camping was certain that Judgment Day would fall on May 21, and was reportedly “flabbergasted” to find himself and the rest of his flock still standing on terra firma. now people are waiting for Dec. 21, 2012 to see if the end of the ancient Mayan calendar also spells the end of human existence.

as a college student, I am a little pissed off that so many “adults” are willing to throw us younger generations under the bus and declare no future exists for us. unlike the people mentioned above, I am no quitter. I agree with Jon Stewart, who said “We live in hard times, not End Times.”

since the dawn of civilization people have been warring with each other and with the forces of nature. It was only a matter of time before centuries of consumption came back around to smack us square on the chin. Global climate change is the result of years of waste, consumption, pollution and general disregard for the environment. now scientists are starting to draw links between climate change and the recent wave of natural disasters striking America, most recently the flooding of the Mississippi River and the tornadoes ravaging the Midwest.

Achenbach points out that modern technology is causing people to become sloppy with their work. He cites flawed safety precautions in the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig in the Gulf of Mexico and the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant in Japan. when disaster struck, in both cases, insufficient backup plans were in place to contain the ensuing oil spill and meltdown. the safety devices in place were erroneously thought to be enough.

Here is where Achenbach makes a good point, there always needs to be a backup plan. Technology should never completely replace human ingenuity in terms of fixing a problem. that should be the end of the discussion, but Achenbach goes on to explain how people should have backup plans for a variety of disastrous situations (all while still finding the time to plug a book he wrote).

Thanks for the concern, Achenbach, but you are not helping. Trust me, I suffer from enough paranoid delusions as it is. I do not need to read your suggestions on all the possible ways I might die and what I have to do to stay alive.

Instead, Achenbach is merely contributing to the fervent attitude of, “What if the world ended right this moment?” Newsflash: If the world actually did end right this moment, there is nothing you could do about it. that is why there is little point in pondering end world solutions. that way of thinking will only distract you from living life to the fullest. that is what Camping and other religious doomsday prophets need to realize – don’t focus on when you will get to Heaven, but instead try and live in a manner that makes Earth seem heavenly. This ends the touchy-feely portion of this column. as Achenbach correctly states, “the 20th century was the century of world wars, genocide and grinding ideological conflict,” but I disagree with his outlook for the 21st century. He took the 20th century line of thought and extrapolated it, applying it to the rest of this century. the interesting thing about looking back on history is people can usually find ways to avoid repeating it.

Nobody can accurately predict how and when civilization as we know it will cease to exist, but we can do our best to stave off elimination. Scientists and world leaders need to continue to pursue international diplomacy and keep addressing how climate change is altering our planet, and what ways we can help. that does not mean coming up with semi-humorous zombie apocalypse guides, as CNN reports the Center for Disease Control and Prevention did last month. that is not helping either.

It is the younger generations, college and high school students, who will ultimately have the greatest impact on the 21st century. we are the ones who will shape its destiny. the century is still young, and to declare it will end before it has hardly begun is making a very hasty judgment. I have a little more faith that we can continue doing what previous generations have done for centuries: keep the population alive. the world faced the threat of nuclear annihilation for more than 40 years during the cold War, but we came through that relatively unscathed.

The most popular question that everyone seems to be asking nowadays is – 2012 the End of the World?

Of course no one knows for sure but there are lots of theories that are supporting that there will be changes after December 2012. whether it is for the good or the worse can only be revealed when the date actually arrives.

The two main schools of though are that 2012 is undoubtedly the end of the world and that 2012 is actually a age of enlightenment.

December 2012 is actually not suppose to be feared. it is instead suppose to cause a great positive shift in global consciousness that will benefit mankind.

The 2012 end of the world have largely arisen from the physical end of the Mayan calender. the round ancient stone calender ends exactly on December 2012.

Other people are predictions are that a giant Planet X will crash into earth and/or that the polar changes will cause large natural disasters to ripple throughout the earth including tsunamis, earthquakes, rising water levels, mountains collapsing and super volcanoes. because of these factors the most dangerous places to live on earth include – Europe, Asia, Canada, Australia and the United States.

Nostradamus, who lived from 1503 – 1566, is one of histories most famous seers. it is interesting to note that in Nostradamus’ book of predictions continue well beyond the year 2012. this indicates that Nostradamus at least does not believe that 2012 will actually be the end of the world. Major disasters may occur, but not enough to wipe out all of mankind.

An even weirder thing is that in the magnetic field of the Earth have been reported holes similar to ozone holes. it seems that the magnetic poles will soon reverse and this will affect our planet’s capacity to defend against heavy objects that will attack us in the future. The planetary alignment could lead to a huge solar storm.

Also scientists think that the solar system has just entered in an interstellar node with a very powerful energy and electromagnetic activity. The entire solar system is reacting, trying to adapt to the new situation.

If the collision will be violent, the electromagnetic activity will unleash a huge quantity of energy in our direction. Comets and asteroids could suffer oscillations in their orbits and the risk of collisions will increase.

Will the world end in December 2012? If you believe in the people who interpret the Mayan calendar as a prophecy, then the answer would be yes. there is just one thing that people need to know. The Mayan predictions do not actually say that the world will end in December 2012. What it says is that there will be a major transformation, a shift in the way things are. there are people who are saying that it is all metaphorical while there are some who are claiming that a literal change will happen to the earth. Something devastating but very significant to man’s evolution. an end to the world as we know it.

So what can we expect from in December 2012 if the Mayan calendar was talking about a literal shift? Everything that the movie 2012 depicted and more. there will be earthquakes brought about by volcanic eruptions and movement of the earth’s surface. there will be widespread tidal waves and tsunamis that will wipe out entire villages. there will be storms and hurricanes that are several times more powerful than Katrina. there will be death, destruction and chaos everywhere that is, if messages of the prophets of doom are true.

Why should we even give importance to the Mayans? What qualifies them to make such a prediction? If you must know, the Mayan civilization is one of the greatest that ever existed. they were great thinkers who made great discoveries about the nature of the earth and the universe. they were scientists and philosophers who loved knowledge and who sought the truth with passion. This is the reason why the Mayans and their accomplishments matters. and this is also the reason why some scholars believe that the Mayan predictions should not be ignored.

It is really hard to say whether there will be a major catastrophic event in December 2012. But as many people are saying, better safe and ready than sorry. We should always be prepared for disasters such as earthquakes, storms and flooding.

I don't think so!
I hate when people do this, telling everyone the world is going to end at this year date and time. when they don't have proof and spread this facts to the world, people will commit suicide because they don't want to die painfully or too scared or just a "easy and smart" way to die .
But, im not sure if its true or even a fact, but my smart *** math/physics teacher, says that the earth is moving too quickly or something and says that the Earth might end 2020 something (you see how much i pay attention in algebra 2 class XD), but i don't beleive in anything anymore. I only beleive what god is gonna do and deal with it when it happens but hopefully it won't happen for another billions of years soo don't worry, relax, chew gum, drink your favorite beverage, and watch the 2012 movie XXDD JK

Please dont believe in this crazy nonsense. Its a fact that the world will NOT end in 2012. 1 because NASA had admitted to this being false. ( they said there is NO SIGN of a planet crashing into us, and NOT any sign of infared sunrays toasting us) 2. because the Mayan elders are now very upset that there belief was taking the wrong way. that date was set to mean a NEW ERA. not the end of the world. this new era was spiritual and it meant HUMANS would be at peace with earth and would become more earth-loving. No one will know the time or the date, but when it does happen, it will happen in the blink of an eye. please dont be fearing this, go on with your life and look forward to the future. I keep reading about this 2012 thing. I know almost nothing about it. the world is supposed to end or some cataclysmic thing is supposed to happen. I could die at any moment and I try to remain vigilant in living the phrase "…Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done…"

We Hindus don't believe that the world will end in 2012 because no Hindu scripture says so about any such possibility. in fact Hindu scriptures never talk about destruction but creation. These are all imaginary events propagated by the believers of destructive religions. please stop rumors.

Thousands of people around the world are wondering, “Is 2012 End of World real?”. There are hundreds of theories on the matter, but which ones are true. Will the earth really end on December 21, 2012? With all of these questions there are answers. this theory of the destruction of the earth stems from the translation of a Mayan calendar. the translation was performed by archeologists that studied the ancient Mayan temples and believe that they have the answers to the riddle that is the Mayan written language. These “experts” postulate the destruction of the Earth in 2012, but does that mean it is true?

Is 2012 end of world? There are many theories on what will happen in 2012. These theories are sorted and vary in severity. some of the theories include what is called a polar shift, in which the geomagnetic poles reverse. however, a geomagnetic reversal takes millions of years to occur. this reversal would cause world wide storms and destruction. Other such doomsday theories include an alignment with a black hole that is in the center of the Milky way galaxy that will rip the earth apart. the problem with that theory is that the Black hole is 30,000 light years away from earth and need to be about 6 million times closer to actually effect the planet. Another is that the Earth with collide with what is being called a planet meteor called Nibiru. this theory stems from a group of people that base their claims on the idea of them channeling an alien race that lives on the planet.

All of these doomsday theories allude to the end of the world by means that seem barely believable. Most of them have been refuted by astronomers and other scientists with NASA. And these frightening concepts stem from a calender that is hundreds of thousands of years old. the translation of the calender does not say specifically that the world will end. the concept began because the calender ended at a specific date, December 21, 2012, the end of the world. however, this may not be the case at all. Recently, a representative of the existing Mayan elders came forward to spread a new warning. Carlos Barrios, a historian, anthropologist, investigator, as well as a ceremonial priest, says that the translations are wrong and that the world is not going to end at all, rather, it will change.

According to Mr. Barrios, the Mayan elders have been studying the calender that supposedly gives this prophecy and sixteen others like it. he says that the only people that can read it correctly are the indigenous tradition keepers that know the full scope of the knowledge held in the calender. according to their accounts, the world is in a transition from one age to another. this “new age” will bring about a global understanding and peace will follow. that is not to say that there will not be devastation, but the world will heal itself and to do this, it will have to cleans itself of impurities on its surface. this does not mean that the world will end, but it will change for the better.

Is 2012 end of world? it is not necessarily something to fear. the Mayan calender is not complete, but that does not mean that the Mayan people anticipated a global catastrophe. it only means that the calender ended and probably needs to be reset. the idea that, all over the world, people are scared that the end is coming and so they are showing their families love when they have not for so many years is laughable. the concept that these same people are only showing signs of being human because they are afraid that they will not get into Heaven when 2012 comes is a poor statement of humanity. that it takes threat of death for us to enjoy and respect life is a sign of social ineptitude. we need to wake up and, as Carlos Barrios said, take action in our life, our world, our universe. If it ends, it will only be because we did not fight to save it.

Much has been said, written, and speculated about what is really going to happen in the year 2012. This year, and specifically, the date December 21, 2012 has been said to have great significance in the Mayan calendar. This is the date that has brought about much conversation and fear that it will be the final day of Earth’s existence. It is said to be a prophecy, since the Mayan calendar ends on this date. The fact that the Mayan calendar terminates on such an arbitrary date prompts many to believe that Mayan predictions foresaw the end of the world coming long before anyone else.

The Mayan Long Count Calendar is a rather peculiar calendar, and it’s easy to see why the Mayan predictions are believable based on how the calendar is structured. It starts on August 11, 3114 BC, marked as the creation of the world by the Mayans. This creation date is written 0.0.0.0.0 in the Mayan representation. The first digit represents the *baktun, and each baktun lasts exactly 144,000 days, or 394.3 solar years. every digit except the second from the right rolls back to 0 on the 20th iteration; the remaining digit rolls back to 0 after 18th iteration. The 13th baktun, which we are currently in, started on September 18, 1618.

The calendar rolls over to the 14th baktun on December 21, 2012-a cycle that would have lasted 5,125 years from the beginning. according to the Mayans, this is called the Great Cycle. perhaps the Mayan predictions pointed to something even bigger, called the precession of the equinoxes. The earth’s axis of rotation moves very slowly, making one complete rotation every 26,000 years. This is given as a plausible reason for why the Mayans ended their calendar on that date in 2012, because this not only is this the date for the winter solstice, but the Earth will complete its precession on that day as well.

The Mayans were technologically advanced for their time. They were extremely proficient in mathematics, which would make setting such a date seem plausible, even if it seems rather arbitrary to the layperson. But should we be concerned about December 21, 2012? will mass destruction and polar shifts occur, much like what we’ve seen in the movies? Chances are that we’ll probably wake up that day and it’ll be just like any other day, and much like the fervor around Y2K, this might be all for naught. as we approach that supposedly fateful day, the Mayan prophecies will be in the back of everyone’s minds.
