This guy at school keeps telling me the world will end in 2012. Will it really?

I don't believe it cuz my family is religous and i think the world will end whenever god makes it end. but how did this 2012 thing start? apparently ive been missing a lot. All i want to know where this 2012 stuff is coming from thx!

2012 is from the Myan Calander.

yea its just the cut off piont on the mayan calander some ppl do believe something will happen but not the end of the world entirely.. i hear psychic sylvia brown write a book..on what she sees for the future..but then again look at all the hype when we hit Y2K?

No, it won't end in 2012.

It comes from the fact the maya calendar ended in 2012. But that means nothing: our calendars end on 31th december, but the universe doesn't explode into a world of everything bad every year.

Also, they sacrificed humans to cause rain. Yeah.

The 2012 Theory began as a result of the Mayan Calender which said that the world would end on December 21 or December 23 2012. The general idea by some in the scientific community is that on that date the planets will align, and the idea is that the alignment will continue and they planets will align with the Super-Mass Black Hole that supposedly exists in the center of the Milky way Galaxy.

The idea is that this alignment will cause all electric impulses to shut down and that would be the end of the world, because everything including use require electric impulses to exist.

Now the planets have aligned in the past and nothing happened. For the most part this is just another "Doomsday Prediction" such as Nostradamus saying the world would end in 1999, which as we can all tell did not. The only difference is that the Mayans have a reputation for being very accurate.

I am of the opinion that if they were so far advanced that they could successfully predict the end of the world, then why were they not able to see the bloodshed that occurred from with in their own borders, and why were they not able to prevent their ultimate disappearance?

Also, many descendants of the Mayan feel that it is far from literal. In-fact many modern Mayan attach 0 significance to 2012. The idea of the end of times is according to some a Western philosophy that has no bearing on anything. You can read more in the source I used.

The main site for this belief comes from Tortuguero, which says something along the lines of something ending on the 13th set, which if their calender is accurate, is supposedly 2012 or there abouts. But according to Mayan belief there are 20 sets before the end of the cycle which in theory would be the end of the world.

I would say that this belief comes more from people's superstition, and more specifically tridecaphodia, fear of the Number 13.

This is no more than another doomsday theory. there are many such theories. And they are just that theories or guesses.

For example legend has it that somewhere in the Himalayas there is a monastery that has a Golden Towers of Hanoi with 100 rungs and the legend is that when the three monks complete the puzzle the world will end.

For you if you are still uncertain I would advise you read Revelations and make your decision based off of that.

The people who are of the opinion the world will end in 2012 are the same people that thought the world would end in 1999, and in 1843-1844, they are just theories and many including 2012 theories are classified a pseudoscience, i.e., the have no basis in anything

And if none of that puts your mind at ease then go to the more modern idea of the Doomsday Clock which will be more than likely be the real end of humanity, meaning that it would take a nuclear war to end the world. And at this point in time, and for many years in the future the theory of Mutually Assured Destruction (MAD) still holds, and nobody is stupid enough to start a nuclear war because they would be destroyed as well and nobody, no matter what they say, really wants to die, least of all governments. they want money and there is still far too much money to be made in the world for people to role over and let some religious belief win out. they will keep fighting to keep the world turning for generations to come

The world will end whenever God wants it to end. The Mayan calendar was made with an expiration date, the calendar expires in 2012, that's it. The calendar just happens to end in that year, that's why people are freaking out. You got nothing to worry about. Remember what our Lord says:

1 Thess 5: 2

"for you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night."

Matthew 24: 36

"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[a] but only the Father."

The World as you know it WILL end in 2012; because, the world is so badly over populated millions of people are being murdered by the governments of most nations.

Tell him to do himself and everyone else a favor and SHUT THE **** UP!

If your really scared or curious like i was, i saw how right these people are, go to this website on valuable info no how it WON'T end!! there are stories and tons of info leading up to how the world won't end.

Its just a calender like ours, it end on dec 31 and theirs ends on 21 dec 2012 nothing will happen it just keeps on going.

No need to worry it was made up by a gal who used to use LSD and guys who hear voices in their heads from alien implants.

:-)

Good day to you!

I hope it does come to an end because all this negativity is annoying. Maybe the next world, folks will say, how and when can we create a better world. we have gone to the extent of even making a movie about it, so ridiculous.
Even the Mayans are wondering why Americans are taking stupidity to a whole new dimension. Damn we have the technology, and we will meet any challenge as it comes.

This guy at school keeps telling me the world will end in 2012. Will it really?

Is december 21 2012 the end of the world is the mayan calendar right?

i was watching the history channel and it talks about the end of the world is it true im only a child and im scared to death i thought only god could end the world

it's nothing really.
everyone though Y2K (year 200) would mess up all the computers and missiles would kill everyone. but it didn't.

the mayan calender ends december 21 2012. it doesn't mean the earth will end. they just didn't record after that date. people have said it's the end of the world because the mayans supposedly could 'guess' the events and stuff. people have said they guessed the 9/11 attacks, but i haven't seen evidence of it.
besides, if the mayans were so good at guessing the future, why is their culture extent? seriously. don't worry about it. it's just another myth.

Look man, dont listen to these other dumbasses who say it's just a hoax and nothing is going to happen. the end of the world isn't as it sounds, just the end of things as we know them, doesn't mean humans wont exist just that there will probably be some natural or nuclear disaster. the population will probably lose a couple billion at first, then disease and starvation take effect and reduce the population even more. those lucky enough to live underground won't have to worry about living on the surface, but most people (like myself) cannot afford money for a bunker so i'll probably be forced to survive on what I can find, such will probably be the fate of others no doubt.

No its 12.12.12

decemeber 12 2012 and its not real

December 12, 2012
Will the world end in 2012? No, it won’t.

Will there be a major cataclysm in 2012? Quite possibly.

This page examines some of the significances behind the date of December 12, 2012.

We are currently in a period of eleven years all of which have a day with the last two digits of the year repeated three times in mm/dd/yy form (or dd/mm/yy or yy/mm/dd). so may 5, 2005 was 05/05/05; June 6, 2006 will be 06/06/06; July 7, 2007 will be 07/07/07, etc. so what's going to happen on December 12, 2012?

Nothing. nothing happend on 5.5.5 6.6.6 or 7.7.7 so nothing will happen on 12.12.12

Well the mayan calendar is not the only one who predicted the end of the world. nosterdomis did to. even on the same date and there are many differant who predicted that the world will come to an end in 2012. the profits may be true. but they are not true the world will not end in 2012. all that will happen is that the poles will change. the south pole wil become the norht and the south will become the north.
so don't worry about it.

No. nobody knows when is the end of the world except Allah. because he said that nobody will know when is the end of the world.

They had to stop the Mayan calender at some point – they couldn't make it go on and on and on forever – it's not the end of the world

Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo…

Mayans are morons who are already dead. What did they know? all of their writings can be interpreted a thousand different ways. the world is not going to end and you will be fine.

I think they said the same thing about the year 2000. -.- baloney…we're still alive and well!

Its true- it is just another winter solstice:
http://www.solvingstonehenge.co.uk/

Lol its a bunch of bull ****, go and live your life and forget about it. how come they can't predict what will happen this week? :)

good fear is being scared to touch a stove because it will burn your hand.

bad fear is being scared of something that may never happen.

it's just bad fear.

The Mayans were amazing.
They predicted that the world would end when Sarah Palin ran for president.

just another winter solstice

They thought the same thing at the turn of the Millenium. Guess what: didn't happen.

Don't worry about it, most likely the world will not end for a long time.

Don't worry about it! there have been HUNDREDS of predictions of the world ending. It'll be ok(:

Nobody knows when the earth will end. not even God. He's waiting on Jesus.

no its not true its a load of crap really, dont be scared it will not happen

Why are u on yahoo answers if u are a child?

no…they said that bout 2000 and nothing happen. its just bs people make up to scare people

the end of the Mayan calendar does not mark an end of the world but rather an end of a 26,000 year cycle in which earth completes a full precession. A precession is the earths wobble on its axis as it shifts the location of the equinox/solstice at 1 degree every 71.5 years.

(The equinox is when the sun lines up on the equator and the solstice is when it is at its northern/southern most extreme)

During the December equinox on 12/21/12 our sun will enter the galactic alignment, which is when the sun lines up perfectly with the massive black hole in the center of the milky way and our equator. It is the beginning/end of the 26,000 year cycle.

The reason why this played such an importance to the Mayans was because their mythology was a, sort of frame work for astronomy. their creation myth, in a nut shell, featured 2 gods (whose names i can't recollect), but were symbolized by the sun (father) and the center of the milky way (mother). Early Mayan sky watchers noticed that our sun, father, was slowly moving toward the center of the milky way, mother. Through mathematics and astronomy they were able to calculate the day that these two would align with the earths equator on the galactic equator, which is confirmed as 12/21/12

As far as whether this will be the end of the world is unclear (and very unlikely since this happens every 26,000 years and the earths been around for about 4.5 billion years). thats not ruling out that something crazy will happen, but i'm not canceling any appointments for 2013

Oh, and Tyler: the mayan calendar is a very precise calculation of the solar system (Kinda funny that they are morons since they were aware that we are orbiting the earth and the earth is round in 2000BC.. something our intelligent "modern" civilization didn't discover until 16th century AD! the reason they are dead is actually because they thought Cortez was one of their gods so they let him in… and he killed them with violence… but mostly with disease! they were tricked lol!

As far as all the people using Y2K as evidence for 2012 not being significant. Y2K was a computer bug caused by lazy programmers not put 19xx in front of the dates. they thought this would wreak havoc with the computers and screw everything up. the only other thing i remember was the hobos in NYC with signs saying the world would end. lol. there are actually a lot of astronomers, mathematicians, and physicist that are interested in 2012, not so many were about Y2K lol.

If we can learn anything from the Mayan Calendar it is that the knowledge of ancient civilizations is important to us and we shouldn't brush it off. Go all the way back to the ancient sumerians and you will find their hieroglyphics showing the planets in our solar system rotating around the sun in 4000BC and tell me that modern science is so far advanced to the same people that first started non-nomadic civilization on earth!

Is december 21 2012 the end of the world is the mayan calendar right?

Will the world end in 2012? and if so how? (predictions)?

Well, there's been a lot of stuff about oh the worlds going to end on December 21st 2012.

A big thing ive heard about that make people think that is that the mayan calender ends that day or somethin along that line.

well my response to that is: a calender has to end sometime, our yearly calenders end and we're not dead yet, so to base it off a calender sounds pretty stupid, but i've also heard mayans were great astronomers and they left the calender like that to predict the end of the world.

i also heard something about a solar flare causing the earth to do some weird crap where we have earthquakes n volcanic eruptions n then have massive flooding to end the world.

i honestly dont think the world will end that day but i'd like to know what other people think since im to big on this stuff i dont know much about it.

The world will not end.

You are correct, the Mayan calendar ends, but every year our own calendar ends, and so far we are indeed still alive. The only difference between our calendar and the Mayan calendar is that the Mayan calendar is much longer.

Solar flares are unpredictable, so that theory is not at all relevant.

The only other "theory" is that the Earth will have a polar shift. The many problems with this one is that:
a) this has happened before
b) it takes place over many years, not days

One last thing, please don't listen to those who are convinced that December 21, 2012 is anything other that four days before Christmas.

For many months I have had a 'standard answer' for questions which involved subjects such as 'Planet X', 'Nibiru', 'Mayan Calendar', '2012', 'End of the Earth', etc. etc. but I have desided to re-compose it since it seems to be pushing all of the wrong buttons on a lot of 'people' <sic>.

It really is too bad that most people have such knee-jerk reactions when reality challanges any of their personal beliefs. especially if those beliefs are based upon some sort of 'pseudo-science' which gets a lot of air time or, even worse, if it seems to encroach upon some of their cherished beliefs in the supernatural or any sort of organized beliefs holding that the Universe is the result of some omniscient beings whim(s). It just seems to be another measure of how unbelievably stupid and gullible so many people are.

In the last few months (since I started replying to a sudden upsurge of questions about '2012') the 'standard answer' I have given (and to which I refer above) has been posted literally hundreds of times. and yet, suddenly, I find myself in receipt of violation notices to an answer which has, heretofore, not been considered offensive by anyone. my suspicion is that I have simply 'tweaked' someones cherished (and stupidly misplaced) belief(s) in the nature of reality (or the 6:00 O'Clock News).

While my 'standard answer' is certainly not any bastion of subtlety or wonderful example of writing style (within the context of contemporary usage of the English language) it certainly seems far less insulting or provocative than the ubiquitouss 'F–k You' that shows up on the pages of Y! answers from time to time. I had debated reproducing my 'standard answer' in its entirety here as an example of how badly Y! fails in it's job of verifying the 'objectionable content' of a reply, but decided against it since someone just might take offense at the suggestion that Y! even had any responsibility for checking the veracity of a complaint.

However…….

It does seem that there have been a huge number of individuals who have been misguided (rather badly, in most cases) in their beliefs. Whether this disinformation to which they have been subjected is accidental or disingenuous in origin is of no real interest. but the promulgation of such untruth(s) (and in particular, such untruths as terrify the younger and more susceptible members of society) without checking their veracity is certainly cause for wondering just how hopelessly stupid some individuals can be. The only 'people'<sic> of substantially lower moral (and intellectual) caliber are the ones attempting to profit from Chicken Littles irrational belief that 'The sky is falling!'.

There have been any number of well thought out, well documented, and well presented replies to de-bunk the myth(s) that ancient Mayan calendars, numerology, crystal gazing, spiritual advisors, or other such superstitious nonsense is capable of predicting the end of the Earth. I have lost count of the number of Astronemers (professional and amateur alike) who have refuted claims made for the existence of some 'rogue planet' which is supposed to strike the Earth on 21 December, 2012. there are any number of very credible sources on the Web (whose URL's have been repeatedly mentioned on Y! Answers) providing proof that such things are not going to happen and one would think that, after enough time, some faint glimmer of intelligence reaction to these doomsday myths just might begin to be noticed.

But such is not the case. It appears that, no matter how many times one provides real, factual, repeatable, demonstrable proof of a thing, the 'popular' response will shout down reality and those exposed to reality will either change sides, or fail to respond for fear of being ridiculed by those who must be correct since 'everyone knows it'. someone once observed that: "Truth passes through three distinct phases. first it is ridiculed, secondly it is violently opposed, and finally it is accepted as self-obvious truth." It really is a good observation of the average persons 'mentality' <sic>. Apparently the speed of intelligence is rather slow while the speed of stupidity may approach that of light itself.

Still, no matter how much it may offend some, I will re-state that I have several outstanding wagers (and, in one case, for a rather substantial amount) placed with some individuals (both male -and- female, lest someone accuse me of sexism and demand that this response be removed). and that these individuals really have no expectations of ever having to make good on the wager since they firmly believe that the World is going to be destroyed.

Perhaps that, in and of itself, irritates some. That I could be so crassly materialistic as to knowingly defraud someone because of their inate stupidity. Rest assured that the aforementioned wagers were suggested (and, in most cases, by the other individuals) only after some rather lengthy attempts at rational expl

Another 2012 question…
Firstly, this has been asked and answered dozens of times.
I'll answer anyway (because copy-paste is so easy).
The Mayan calendar is a really cool thing, really. It consists of three wheels that are each different sizes. one is the equivalent of a week to us, one would be comparable to a month, the other a year.
They interlock so that one tile of each of the wheels is in line, and each day each wheel turns. now, because of the way they are laid out, every year on the same day, you get a different combination of tiles. they only repeat once every 250,000 years (the cool thing is that this is the time it takes the Solar system to go once around the Milky way. those Mayans were scary good at astronomy.)
December 21, 2012 (the winter solstice and new years day for the Mayans) is when this calendar cycles.
According to Mayan beliefs, this signals a "great change." usually, the change is thought of and good, not bad.
Unfortunately, Nostradamus came along and said the would would end in 2012 and the two got mashed together into one instance. The thing is that Nostradamus' "predictions" are often thought to be nothing more than well-disguised political commentary. That or he was a cook.
Hope that helps answer your question.

HAHA. I notice I'm not the only cut-and-paste-2012-answerer!

React in Love. No matter what you believe is going to happen, or not going to happen, the best and really only reaction you can have is Love. Realize that to act in fear, and to spread fear will bring nothing, no answers, no resolutions, but more fear.

well they say that the Mayan calender ends 12/21/12. but how do they know that it is 12/21/2012? how do they know its not 12/21/3012 or 12/21/4012? why december 21st? wouldn't the government be nervous if something really was going to happen? wouldn't you think if the world was going to end they would warn us? it really makes you wonder if this is a scientific mistake or they are just telling us crap again like with january 1st 2000. our government is tricky like that sometimes. although i don't believe that the whole world is going to end on that specific day. sure, something bad may happen, but i doubt the world will come to a complete end. although this is just in my personal opinion.

The 2012 apocalypse predictions are total bullcrap. some people refer to them as 'hoaxes', but they don't really even deserve to be called hoaxes. A hoax is a sort of scientific practical joke, where someone takes steps to fabricate false scientific evidence. However, with the 2012 stuff, there is no such effort. there is no evidence whatsoever holding it up, faked or otherwise. It's not a hoax, it's just a load of pure, total, unadulterated nonsense. there is no Nibiru or Planet X. The Sun will not line up with a black hole, and even if it did, that would have no effect on the Earth whatsoever. Magnetic pole shifts take centuries to complete, and cannot possibly happen over the span of a single year. The Large Hadron Collider cannot produce a black hole capable of consuming even a single atom, much less the entire Earth. Jesus is not going to return. The aliens are not going to land. and when you get right down to it, the Earth ending right when the 13th baktun of the mayan calendar flips over is about as likely as the Earth ending when the odometer on your car goes from 49999 to 50000; in other words, REALLY FRIKKIN' UNLIKELY.

hope not thats when im do for a upgade on mi phone

You are right in being able to come to the logical conclusion that the world won't end when the Mayan calendar does. It simply restarts, just like ours does each and every year.

It is stated in Revelations that only God knows when the end of the world will occur. The physical world is not any more likely to end in 2012 than at any other point in time. this is not Christian doctrine in any way.

The theory that the world will end in 2012 originated because of an ancient form of the Mayan calendar. this calendar, like the one we follow now, repeats itself after a set period of time. However, this Mayan calendar repeats only after very long intervals (many, many years). some people have mistaken this process of repetition to be the end of the calendar altogether. and somehow this ending was correlated to the end of the world.

It really has nothing to do with Christianity. there is no physical or spiritual Christian evidence to back up this theory.

Won't it be interesting to see how these armageddon folks celebrate the Christmas of 2012?

Will the world end in 2012? and if so how? (predictions)?

Share what you think about the 2012 mayan calender prediction?

The mayan calendar has the most specific end date of December 21 2012. they have indicated the world will end with a flood. With all of the earthquakes that have happened and the big tsunami in Japan this actually seems consideratable. they got their information from a talk white man who came from the sea. it sounds almost as if an extra-terristial visited them and provided them with future information. I found this information on http://2012predictions.org/ because the end supposebly being in 2012 has sencerely scared me! not sure what will really happen, probably nothing because the end has been prophesized before and nothing has happened. but the mayan calender actually makes since!! scarey..

I think the Mayan got wiped out before they could calculate the next phase of their calendar cycle, and that it will just reset in 2012, that's it. the predictions they made were based off of observation of the stars, moon and suns effects on planetary events, such as floods, unusual weather etc. they had a bit of advancement in that department over most other people of the time. I seriously doubt it is meant to be an end of the world, and that they meant such things would possibly happen if the gravitational pulls were in place from the proper alignments they had studied having caused them in that past.

My prediction:

Every year, the Gregorian calendar ends on December 31st. then it starts over again.

Same thing with the Mayan calendar. its a cyclical calendar, dude. That means that it will simply start again. the end will not come, there will not be a global flood, and you will wake up on Dec 22nd feeling like an asshat for believing this crap.

Nothing will happen…the world will continue as it always has. the Mayans eventually mysteriously died off without a cause that we know of but maybe it just so happened that December 21, 2012 was the last day they got to document before everything started going to hell for them with whatever reason they disappeared?

The world is "supposed" to end every like 30 years or so. everyone is sure at one point or another that the world will end, or at least the world as we know it. they see bad things happening, match it up with doctrine of one flavor or another, and conclude that it's armageddon. Why worry about it?

There is no "2012 Mayan calendar prediction."

The calendar they made ends then. Just like the one you hang on your wall ends every year on Dec. 31st. were there still Mayans around, they'd make a new one, just like you hang a new one up every year.

The Mayans couldn't even predict their own downfall at the hands of the Spanish. so even if they had made a prediction (and they didn't), why would you give it any merit?

Peace.

They were too lazy to finish their calendar.
I have also heard that they did not predict the end of the world, but a shift in humanity. so, expect something important to happen, but not the end of the world.
Also: try living in the present as much as possible. Time waits for no one, and the time you lose will never come back.
Don't worry too much ; )

The fact that the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012 is no more significant than the fact that the calendar on my wall ends on December 31, 2011. the Mayans had to stop writing at SOME point.

>>not sure what will really happen, probably nothing because the end has
>>been prophesized before and nothing has happened.

Well, there you have it.

It wont be the judgment day but it can be a Human Planned Judgement Day, when they ll bring fake aliens from sky who will attack us, then they ll use HAARP microwaves to boil the earth and cause earthquacks and tsunami and then they ll use mind control to make us kill each other so earth will have few people left on it. thats the plan. Learn about "Secret Societies, Rothschild" on you tube. they think there are too many people in the world who are using earths resources, so 2/3rd of them need to be eliminated.

sure it makes "sinse" i love it.
it ends in 2012 because someone says it does.
its not the end of the world. we still havent had a nuclear war .
hebrew prophets spoke of these things yet to happen

armegeddon hasn't happened yet.
the antichrist hasnt sat upon the throne and declared himself to be god yet.
unelss we missed Obamma sitting on a throne LOL

I have also heard that 12/21/12 couldn't be proven since in Mayan dates it might also be 12/23/12. I can't wait for 12/22/12. some people will be DREADFULLY embarrassed. then we'll just have to wait for the world to end again in may 2013.

This Bizarro cartoon says it all:

http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_Wqo9IVCWV5E/Sz…

WHAT I THOUGHT THE WORLD ENDED ON 2000?
i have heard it all before God i wonder when people would stop believing this!!
IT a LIE…a flood is gonna come from nowhere for God sake be real!
Leave it to God the creator of all!!!!

No, it says no such thing. the people making this claim simply misrepresent the evidence. Look to some credible Mayan scholars rather than internet hucksters, and this will become clear.

Wrong.the Mayan calendar does not end on that date, this cycle of it does. It's perpetual and restarts at the end of each cycle.

Yeah I really believe people who cut other people's hearts out because they thought it would make the sun happy -.-

The date is a just a resetting of calendar, nothing more or less.

They also said that the world was on a big serpent. Go figure.

Only God knows. I am not one to judge. It's all in God's hands.

they couldn't predict their own demise so why should i believe them about the end of the world

Using the correct term would get me reported. but it starts with "B" and ends with "T"

How about, I don't care??

wait….what happened to may 2011

I had my bags packed ;o)

God doesn't go by the Mayan calendar!
They had all kinds of practices that were based on fear and death.

God has his own calendar involving feast days, first laid out in Leviticus 23.
Jesus' birth, crucifixion ascension and Pentecost (the giving of the new Life)
corresponded to those days… why not his return to Earth?

Matt.24:29, Luke 21:25-28, Acts 2:18-20 talk about signs..
Notes:
1) "perplexity" means quandry, to be at a loss mentally, no way out
– the situation in the Middle East seems a prime example of this.

2) waves "roaring" is echeo in greek from where we get "echo" i.e. a
loud noise (i.e be heard far & wide), reverberate (like a sound wave) …
root meaning is confusion, renown, fame …. tsunamis

3) "the powers of heaven" = dunamis of ooranos, from where we derive
our words dynamite and uranium

God points to sun darkened and moon turned to blood as the last sign
… eclipses would do this, just as it is believed there were eclipses at other
significant times and from Genesis 1 God gave the heavenly bodies as signs.

Interestingly, in 2014-15 there will be 6 eclipses on special days…
and when Jesus returns his brightess will eclipse the sun.

You are living in your PERSONAL "last days" NOW, unless you receive
God's eternal and abundant life …

You need to be "born again" by receiving God's Spirit, evidenced by the
sign of speaking in tongues, just like we all have:

I would call it silly if so many people were not getting scared about it.

One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or about 5125 years. the next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world. here is what a Mayan elder says on the subject: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/newstopi…

These predictions are scare tactics, conspiracy theories, and chances to make money from books and movies.

Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) end of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 end of the World scenario. when 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.

"but of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:32-33)

Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.

The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.

The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.

Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

Share what you think about the 2012 mayan calender prediction?

Do you believe that on DEC 21,2012 the earth will end or there will going to have a new evolution?

is there a big possible to this happen? if your answer is yes, why?what will be the reason why the world will end in 2012?

The year 2012 is rumored to be the end of the world. this is a false rumor. So do not worry. do not be scared. I assure you that the world will not end on 2012 December 21 but it will end one day. Remember that if there is a beginning, there is an end.

A cataclysmic event, however, will take place. It will be the nuclear World War III that I will explain below. It will not end all life but only a third of mankind will die in this war. After the war, we will realize that we are all brothers and sisters and that we should love each other. We don’t have to resolve conflicts by wars. Only then will peace reign for a long time in this world.

Nostradamus and the book of Revelation
Nostradamus did not prophesy that the world would end in 2012. his prophecy of when the world will end is far into the future, past about AD 3700. this is in agreement with what I heard and learned from the Holy Spirit—that there will only be about 144,000 around AD 2200, peace reigns for a thousand years while the Devil, or Satan, is chained up and locked up in the abyss till around AD 3200 (Revelation 20:1-7), and then Satan will be let loose from his prison to deceive the descendants of the elect for about 500 years (Revelation 20:7-10). After that, the end will come (Revelation 21:1).

Mayan calendar
The Mayan’s Mesoamerican Long Count calendar forms the basis for a New Age belief, first forecast by Jose Arguelles, that a cataclysm will take place on or about 2012 December 21 (Wikipedia). Mainstream Mayan scholars consider “cataclysm” or “apocalypse” as a misinterpretation for to the Mayan scribes, it literally means uncovering or revealing.

The Long Count has 360 days in a year called “Tun”. a “Tun” has 18 months or “unials” and each “unial” has 20 days. twenty (20) Tuns is a Katun and 20 Katuns is a Baktun (144,000 days or about 400 solar years). Thirteen (13) Baktuns is a “Great Cycle” of 1,872,000 days (5,200 Tuns or about 5,125 solar years). the great Cycle in the proleptic Gregorian calendar started on 3114 BC August 11 (day 0.0.0.0.0) and ends on 2012 December 21 (day 13.0.0.0.0) – winter solstice in the Northern Hemisphere. the great Cycle restarts the next day (day 0.0.0.0.0). the representation of the great Cycle of the Mayan Long Count calendar is as follows: (13 Baktuns.20 Katuns.20 Tuns.18 Uinals.20 days).

A thousand years of peace
In Revelation 20:2-7 of the Holy Bible, it tells us about a period of a thousand years of peace. Has this occurred already since the time of Jesus? Not yet. that will still come. Those that give predictions of the world’s end, such as 2012 and numerous times during the past, are pseudo-preachers. Have they talked to God directly? if so, give proofs.

Inevitable physical death
But there is something that will certainly happen—and that is our physical death. this is what we should prepare for. It may come when least expected. We do not know the day and the hour. It will come like a thief in the night. So we just have to be prepared all the time. Search for the true God and when we find Him, follow his commandments and remain in Him until our last dying breath.

Survival kit – faith in the true God
This is all that we have to do. It is faith in the true God that we can take with us when we depart from this world. if we denied Him, he will deny us also before the Father in Heaven and send us to Hell. this is very scary – to live in Hell forever. if we knew Him and loved Him and followed his commandments, then he may reward us to live with Him eternally in his kingdom in Heaven. this is the survival kit that we should have.

2012 is 20 + 12 = 32, age of Jesus when crucified
Did you know that in his/her boredom, “Thanks for reading this” theorized in Yahoo answers, Religion & Spirituality section, that 2012 could be 20 + 12 = 32, the approximate age of Jesus when he was crucified and died? I answered that he/she is correct in his/her theory. When Jesus died, he was actually 32 solar years old, equivalent to 33 lunar years. this is found in the results of a study that I did to check if what the Holy Spirit said regarding the crucifixion of Jesus on August 17 is correct or not. Details are in http://www.geocities.com/peacecrusader88… is this a sign that God is warning us of the impending calamity around 2012, like the end of the Mayan’s calendar cycle? but I repeat, 2012 is not the end of the world yet.

The 144,000 marked good people
The Holy Spirit also told us that beings from another planet will take only the marked good people out of this world. I asked Him if it’s a million. he said much less than that. Then I asked if the number is the one mentioned in Revelation and he affirmed it. a few weeks ago this year, 2008, as I was reading Revelation, I came across Revelation 14:3 to wit (King James Version): “And they sung as it were a new song before the throne, and before the four beasts, and the elders: and no man could learn that song but the hundred and forty and four thousand, which were redeemed from the earth.” “Redeemed from the earth” means saved from the earth. and there were 144,000 of them. this must be what the Holy Spirit was referring to several years ago.

Advice of the Holy Spirit
His advice to all: leave their wicked way of life and change their way of thinking. We should come back to the true God before it’s too late. (I read in Isaiah 55:7 this message, to wit (KJV): “Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon.”) Be good then so that we may be considered to be among the 144,000 who will be saved, and later will restart and repopulate this world. the Holy Spirit told us to tell people about this prophecy even though they accuse us as being out of our minds, crazy or lunatics. he assured us that this will happen, similar to Noah’s prophecy of the great Flood which took a hundred years before it was fulfilled. the ark was the vessel used to save Noah and his family and the animals. this time, another kind of vessel will be used to save the elect.

World War III to start at Spratly Islands
What is also certain to happen very soon (in about 2012 or earlier) is World War III and this is a nuclear war. this “calamitous war” (as Nostradamus called it) will start from the Philippines, at Spratly Islands in particular. the Spratly Islands lie on the southeast part of the South China Sea mostly near the coast of the Philippines. the Holy Spirit told us that the Philippines is the wick of a gas lamp. Once the wick is lit, it will be on and aglow. he told us about this prophecy about two decades ago. he said that the troubles in the Philippines will spread to the whole world until mankind is almost annihilated and a few will remain. Spratly Islands are being claimed wholly by China, Taiwan and Vietnam; and partly by Malaysia, Brunei and the Philippines. the area is considered a tinderbox, a flash point. It is very rich in oil and gas resources, estimated to be more than the reserve of Kuwait. the high price of oil may trigger the grabbing of these islands and start the war.

Certainty of WW III
Four independent prophecies point to the certainty that this will happen. these are Nostradamus’ prophecies to happen around this time (quatrains 6:24 and 2:62) , the 56th Chinese prophecy of Tui Bei Tu (the past 55 prophecies have already been fulfilled) found at http://www.alexchiu.com/philosophy/super… and Wikipedia, Revelation 9:18 of the Holy Bible, and those that the Holy Spirit revealed to us. if you are interested in the details about these prophecies, please send me your request via email.

Spiritual awakening after the war
After the calamitous war, we will have a new age, a spiritual awakening or enlightenment, and peace will reign for a long time in this world. the population would have been reduced by a third and there will be much arable land that will be available. People will be living in planned cities and communities. would you like to live in a city where the land is free and you are guaranteed possession of the land for 50 years, renewable, and which you can bequeath to an heir?

Come back to the true God now
The Holy Spirit has given his prophecies and these are what will happen. Be rest assured then that the world will not end yet. but please, heed what he advises us to do—to change our wicked way of life and change our wrong beliefs. Come back to the true God now before it’s too late. There a lot of lessons to study.

The decision to believe rests upon you
I am just sharing with you what I heard and learned from the Holy Spirit. the decision to believe Him or not depends upon yourself. I am not forcing anyone to believe in what I share. It is not my responsibility to save you or anyone, but the person’s. he is the engineer of the house that he is building.

Reassurance of the true God that he will save us
Isaiah 35:4 (KJV) states: “Say to them that are of a fearful heart, Be strong, fear not: behold, your God will come with vengeance, even God with a recompense; he will come and save you.”

The only thing about the Mayans is that on that day their calendar ends.

So, it's a no-brainer to know that the next day it begins again.

The world doesn't end every December 31, does it? no, the calendar just starts over the next day and the world goes on like it always has for billions and billions and billions and billions and billions of years. (Why should it stop now, anyway?)

The Mayan calendar takes like over 5,000 years to make a cycle (ours only takes one year), so since that's such a long time, they never developed the concept of it starting over a second time. So, to them time just ended since they didn't have a way to describe time beyond the end of their calendar.

Similarly, in the 20th Century, computer programmers only put in two spaces for the year. So, everyone freaked out that computers would stop working when "99" changed to "???". We called this the Y2K bug. It's the same kind of thing. Most computers were fixed ahead of time. the computers that weren't fixed didn't just blow up or anything. They kept working as normal, but if you asked the computer what the date was, it usually gave a weird answer (like "January 1, 19100", for example: I actually saw that!) that didn't make sense to us. (It made sense to the computer, because after nineteen ninety-nine comes nineteen one-hundred, right?)

The world is the same way. It doesn't care about time the way we do.

Of course not. Maurice Cotterell wrote all these "mayan" prophecies. They aren't mayan at all.

And he didn't bother to ask mayans about their calendars (who are still alive). if he had done that, he would know that the mayan new year is in February (not in July), and the mayan year 5125 is not the year 2012, but the year 2009!

There is a reason why astronomers hate astrologers, and it has nothing to do with beliefs. Ancient Mayans are the best astronomers known until now, I'm sure they wouldn't be happy with these "prophecies".

How can you speak about the future written in the stars if you never watch the sky?

Probably not.

Ever since the 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenario did not pan out, the scare mongers have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario.

Each new Christian denomination seems to worry about the end of the world a bit too much. Then after a couple of centuries, they realize that there are always wars and rumors of wars, etc.

I won't even mention the hundreds of false predictions of the end of the world over the centuries, all of which were based on individual interpretations of biblical prophecies.

No one in the ENTIRE world knows when the world will end. It could be in a couple minutes, hours, tomorrow or….Dec 21 2012. Scientist make a guess every year or so as to when the earth will end they've never been correct(were all still here). all we have to do is trust in God and await his coming.

No, I personally don't believe in it happening. Only because back in the 90's they said that in 2000 the world was going to end also known as Y2k. SO no I don't believe so.

Do you believe that on DEC 21,2012 the earth will end or there will going to have a new evolution?

Mayans and Nostradamus predict the end of the world in 2012. Who just happens to be President during that time?

So your conceding defeat in 2012? interesting.

you are taking a break from world of warcraft right now arent you?

Mayans and Nostradamus predict the end of the world in 2012. Who just happens to be President during that time?

ITS REALY TRUE THE DOOMSDAY SIGN IS HAPPENING NOW…? TOWARDS 2012 END OF THE WORLD?

Constant Earthquake, Climate Change Phenomenon, (h1n1 virus, AIDS, etc) Famine, Gender Transition, X-generation highly emphasize, New Age era arises and other related messages from the Bible Revelation. IS ALL THESE THINGS ARE THE SIGN FOR OUR PREPARATION FOR THE END OF THE WORLD…? I dont know at first I dont Believe the Mayans Prediction, The Movie 2012, The Nostradamus Prophecies etc., BUT AT THIS TIME I SHOULD… MY COUSIN WORKING IN A TOP SECRET GOVERNMENT PROJECT that they are now working for the preparation for this upcoming doomsday…But only selected allied country with enough power to overcome the tragedy/calamities for the next 2 yrs… IN OUR COUNTRY WHAT WILL THE GOVERNMENT PREPARATIONS whether if gonna happen or not?

Yes, these are the end Times. We're all going to die any day now.

If your cousin is working in a TOP SECRET GOVERNMENT PROJECT it has to be said that it cannot be that secret if you know about it.

If indeed it turns out that he is working on such a project, then both you and he, should consider going into hiding before your government catches up with you because you are broadcasting about their secret project all over a public forum.

Relax sport..I have been around for a while and lived through numerous "end of the World" events of one kind or another…funny thing is.. each time when I woke up the next morning …nothing had changed!

ITS REALY TRUE THE DOOMSDAY SIGN IS HAPPENING NOW…? TOWARDS 2012 END OF THE WORLD?

Are people who deny Dec. 21, 2012, end of days working for the government?

trying to cover it up?

Do you think I might get secretly executed by the government for inciting the inevitable truth?

Yes that's true.
It's a big cover up.
I work for butlins and don't believe it so it's not just the government.
Anyway the end of existence will be after Christmas if the all destroying astroid has any sense. I'm getting a choo choo train and I'm vomiting all the time because I'm so excited.

No, most of us have just been alive throught the last 100 end of days forecasts since Y2K. I think it's all a scam to get people to buy more emergency supplies that they will likely never need. if someone ever comes out with a legit end of the world theory I probably won't believe it because of all the times people have lied about it just in the past 12 years.

Few take Yahoo Answers seriously. no one really thinks the world is going to end in 2012. if the world really was going to end, there's nothing any of us can do about. why worry about something you have no control over? if the world ends, it ends for everyone. instead of wasting time on 2012, worry about things you can change. not things you can't.

Gullibility and the amount of pot smoked are in phase. that is to say, the more pot you smoke the more gullible you are. People that believe the whole 2012 thing are simply smoking too much jane. Lay off the jane and you will see things with a bit more clarity.

you need to do more research. that date is the end of days, which is a mistranslation for the end of an age. the age ending is pisces, the next age is aquarius. bye bye jesus. =)

You realize they already discovered they were completely wrong about the calendar?

It could be 50 years from now, or it could've already happened.

No, i don't think it will happen, and i don't work for the government

I think you are insane and need psychiatric help soon.

Been picking funny mushrooms?

More tinfoil for you head dear.

Yeah, I work for the government. I am going to need to see your papers…..

No, they work for Skynet

He's on to us…

Are people who deny Dec. 21, 2012, end of days working for the government?

Why are people putting so much stock into this 2012 stuff? What else did the Mayans predict accurately?

Just curious why this date holds to be true vs. any other dates in our lifetime that were supposed to be the end of the world (Nostradamus?). I understand the Mayan calendar ends at 2012, but is that the only reason?

Nothing.

People that "predict thing" that turn out to come true also have thousands of predictions that don't come true.

If I had that much free time I would sit here and make predictions and at least one would come true. the world will not end in 2012, you can hold me to that.

Good question.

I've heard this before and i don't get it. We have cars they had horses he have sky scrapers they had 1 story buildings so they couldn't have been smarter then us. so no i don't think the worlds going to end and the calender ending is the only reason i know of.

The Mayans also thought the sun was God. They sacrificed humans to the sun. do you believe the sun is God?

Nostradamus predicted aliens would arrive on Earth in the 1990s.

Rubbish.

Thats just because the Spanish Conquistadors came and wiped them out before they could write 2013.

I really don't know much about this at all, but i heard that they predicted 9/11 as a date of tragedy

Didn't even know about this, but its interesting lol….

its just something to talk about….Ppl dont really believe it!

people believe stupid stuff…

Why are people putting so much stock into this 2012 stuff? What else did the Mayans predict accurately?

Is 2012 or may 21st the end of the world?should I be scared?

NEITHER, the world will end when God comes back for his people and you should get saved and you will not be scared, and you will go to Heaven

Is 2012 or may 21st the end of the world?should I be scared?
