Obsessing About Time and Clocks

Slate and Artsmith – Clock lovers are a peculiar breed. Precise, sharp, direct, and regular, they fall naturally into the most efficient patterns they can find. This is not to say that they are boring, many take this precision to new and exciting realms using the full force of their creativity, it is just that clock lovers tend to like knowing how things will work out, and so they follow patterns which they find to be successful.

A clock is a constant companion. Its steady ticking occurs in tandem with everyday life, like a quiet beat keeping rhythm, it suffuses itself throughout every event that occurs.

Sometimes, if you get really obsessed with clocks, you will find yourself creating a museum to your collection. You will look around and your house will be filled with shining faces, staring out at you, ticking quietly in their stolid precision.

The problem is that such an environment will perpetuate itself. As your collection grows you will be forced to synchronize the various timepieces, or risk living in a chaotic din of rhythmically warring noises. With synchronization will come power, and the tick will grow stronger, insisting upon themselves until you become a slave to the precision, to the order.

That is why it is always important to focus on balance over any other attribute. Even if precision tends to lead to excellence, over doing anything will eventually lead you to ruin. Be selective with your clocks, choose one or two per space, and be willing to take a clock down when you have found its replacement.

Also, be willing to let a little chaos into your world. The clock is a harsh task master, that doesn\’t leave a lot of wiggle room for free thinking. Make certain that you maintain your ability to change, adapt, and grow as necessary.

British Library Plans To Release Free Classic E-Books

The Amazon Kindle 2
Image via Wikipedia

Amazon Kindle users will be able to download more than 65,000 19th century classic books for free thanks to a project run in partnership between the British Library and Microsoft. Starting in the spring of 2010, the works of authors such as Charles Dickens, Jane Austen and Thomas Hardy will be available in e-book format including the original illustrations (where applicable) and a period type face to give an e-book which has an antique look.

The British Library\’s Chief Executive, Dame Lynne Brindley, said that making 19th century fiction available would expose some forgotten literary gems to a new readership. Approximately 25 million electronically stored pages are planned to be made available.

Over the past three years the British Library has worked with Microsoft to digitally store text and images from works which are out of copyright. Special \”Turning The Pages\” software, which Microsoft helped to develop, allows users to access rare books and manuscripts from authors such as Lewis Carroll, Mozart and Leonardo da Vinci. In addition to viewing a visual representation of a page turning, readers can zoom in to a page, change the orientation and view details of illustrations.

At least one copy of every work of literature published in the UK is held in the British Library. Approximately 40% of the 19th century works held there are not available in other libraries.

The spring launch of the 19th century literature is the latest phase in an ongoing digitizing project which has already made around two million 19th century British newspaper pages available. A further 50 million items are planned to be stored in this manner by 2020. Scanning of 20th century books which are out of copyright is planned to start in the near future – but finance for this part of the project has yet to be confirmed.

Readers who have a preference for more conventional reading material will be able to purchase hard copies of the books which will have the same \”first edition\” look and feel as the originals from Amazon. Prices are estimated to start at around $ 23.

Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans Free Movies

Rise of the Lycans, the third film in the Underworld series, actually takes places before the events of the first two movies in the series. The film shows how the war between the vampires and the cruel Lycans all started. Len Wiseman is the producer of this film while Patrick Tatopoulos takes charge behind the camera. The special effects of the film are sometimes shoddy and fall below expectations which are totally unexpected.

The Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans movie shows that Viktor, the vampire king, is in charge of the wild Eastern Europe. But they are always in fear of the barbaric werewolves. In reality the vampires are no match for the werewolves as the latter are far superior. Viktor knows that very well.

But a strange thing happened. One of the captured werewolf gave birth to quasi human child. This child grows up to become a blacksmith and works as a slave for the vampire family. This child is none other than Lucian. He has a soft corner for Viktor\’s beautiful daughter, Sonja. The two are madly in love with each other and they never miss a chance to sneak into their secret place where they have sex. Male audiences need not rejoice as there is no nudity in the film.

The film Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans movie gains momentum when Viktor comes to know about their secret love affair. Lucian with the help of fellow slave Lycans stages a rebellion against Viktor and his tribe. But does Lucian succeed? What happens to their love affair? In order to get the answers to these questions you need to watch the movie because if I say any further then it will spoil all the fun.

The latest Underworld movie is as much enjoyable as the previous two editions. The action is fast and furious and goes well with the storyline. Michael Sheen and Bill Nighy as Lucian and Viktor are brilliant. Rhona Mitra handles her role quite well but falls much short of expectations. After all, it is hard to replace someone of the caliber of Kate Beckinsdale. The film scores heavily with the critic as it has the right casting and a very good director in Patrick.

Rise of the Lycans is not for general viewing. Only those people who have an appetite for horror films will like this one. The film has lots of blood and gore as the weapons used are all of the medieval period. If you detest blood on screen then don\’t come anywhere near this one.

Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans is a welcome addition to the underworld series sand I am sure fans like me will be very impressed with the latest offering. So here is an opportunity for you. You can now watch Underworld 3: Rise of the Lycans free and don\’t have to worry about getting the tickets to the cinema.

How to Maintain a Clean Bird Bath

Bird baths are a picturesque addition to your garden, patio or yard. However, if they aren\’t maintained properly, they can become an eyesore. If algae and scum are taking over your bird bath, forget about washing it with harsh chemicals or bleach solutions. There are environmentally friendly solutions to keep your bird bath clean and your feathered friends happy and safe.

The best way to keep the green, organic scum from mucking up your bird bath is to prevent it from happening in the first place. Sometimes that\’s easier said than done, but in this case it really is pretty simple. There are all-natural products available that won\’t harm the birds or require constant maintenance.

Bioverse makes a Birdbath Water Cleaner that uses beneficial bacteria and enzymes to prevent stains, mineral deposits and organic build-up. The product reduces the excess nutrients in the water that causes the problems.

Before using the Birdbath Water Cleaner, it is a good idea to give your bird bath a good scrub. After emptying the bath, use a scrub brush or sponge along with a small amount of water. If you cannot remove the stains, try using a solution of water mixed with a bit of vinegar. There are also a few soy-based cleaners available that are safe for birds. Harsh chemicals, such as bleach solutions, should not be used. Even some mild detergents can be harmful to birds, so plain water is your safest bet.

You will want to disinfect your scrub brush or sponge (or just toss it). If you want to keep it, let it soak in some lemon juice and hot water for 20 minutes. Then spray a little Lysol on it, before giving it another rinse with water.

After giving the bird bath a thorough rinse, fill it with water and add a dispenser of the Bioverse Birdbath Water Cleaner. All you have to do is place the dispenser in the middle of your bird bath and the product will begin releasing beneficial bacteria and enzymes. The dispenser lasts for 30 days, and can be used on bird baths as small as one gallon or even up to a seven-gallon bird bath. The only maintenance required by you is to keep the bird bath filled with water.

Every 30 days, you will want to refresh the dispenser to keep your water clear. So, just take out the old one and drop a new one in. That\’s it. You\’re done. Now, you won\’t have to deal with that green organic build up that used to accumulate in your bird bath. A well-maintained bird bath will keep the birds in your area frequent and happy visitors.

Bioverse also has all-natural products for Koi ponds, fountains and larger water features. Don\’t use chemical algaecides and other products that aren\’t eco-friendly on your water when you don\’t have to. Whatever type of water feature you have – large or small — can be healthily maintained with ease.

Recycling Paper – Why It Is Such A Great Thing To Do

Thankfully, paper is not a difficult material to recycle, and there are excellent benefits for the environment when the procedure is completed. Once paper is collected by your local authority or recycling management company, it is then taken to a paper mill, a factory devoted to creating sheets of paper from ingredients such as old magazines, newspapers, used envelopes etc.

Once at the mill, the scrap paper is added to water and then turned into pulp. Having been turned into pulp, it is then cleaned and de-inked. It is then ready to be made into new products such as newspapers, toilet rolls and other paper based items commonly found in the home and office.

Below are some of the environmental and money saving benefits of recycling paper:

Saves Trees – The most obvious reason to recycle paper is for saving trees which provide vital oxygen for the planet. Just 1 ton of recycled paper saves at least 16 of them.

Wildlife Preservation – More often than not, the wildlife that lives in the trees that are cut down to make \’new\’ paper, die quickly because they cannot adapt to living anywhere else. Recycling paper means that they can die natural deaths instead of forced ones.

Saves Space – Recycling paper reduces space in landfills. 1 ton of recycled paper made from scraps can save 3 cubic yards.

Less Pollution – Burning paper in waste incinerators pumps masses of pollution into the air. That means that we are unnecessarily causing the air that we all breathe to be of a lower quality.

Creates Jobs – Think about all the people who work within the paper recycling industry. Collectors, sorters and machine operators being just a few of them. The more that we recycle, the more of these jobs there will be created.

Sets A Precedent – Paper is probably the easiest thing to recycle, so it is a good starting point for those who do not currently recycle at all. Having gotten into the habit of recycling paper, and seeing that it really is not difficult, people are more likely to start recycling other items too.

Cheaper Paper – Recycled paper is often cheap to purchase. Buying cheaper, recycled goods encourages more recycled goods to be manufactured, sustaining the recycling industry.
