2012 – The End of Our Civilization? A Gnostic Perspective

Recently the topic of the Mayan calendar and the end of a major cycle of time has once again been brought to the fore by some authors and the media.

The year 2012 is specifically mentioned, and many expect that the world, as we know it, will finish in that year.

This subject deserves close attention and study. Let us not forget that the Mayans arrived at a very high degree of civilization some 4000 years ago. Modern scholars have verified that the Mayans’ observations and astronomical calculations are entirely accurate in every respect, with much of their knowledge remaining beyond the scope of modern science.

Many other peoples conceived existence subjected to CYCLES OF TIME. The Aztecs, for example, divided time into different “suns”. Suns that give rise to different humanities: the Children of the First Sun, the Second Sun, and so on.

In old Europe the ancient Greeks divided the history of humanity into cycles of four ages: the Golden Age, the Silver Age, the Bronze Age and the Iron Age. At the end of the Iron Age (the period of greatest materialism and confusion) the Earth is renewed and a new Golden Age begins.

The same basic conception of existence is found in ancient India and its sacred books. Here even the universe itself is subjected to great cycles of time (maha-yugas), lasting for millions of years and enveloping universes, systems of worlds, planets and humanities. Here everything rests on the primary rhythm: the Breathing of Brahma, which gives rise to periods of activity and periods of rest for the whole universe (the cosmic days and nights).

Nowadays we have forgotten that life and time unfold in cycles. Today we think that time unfolds in a straight line. We have a linear conception of time (past, present and future). This is one of the consequences of our moving away from Nature. Don’t we realize that the year itself unfolds in endless cycles of spring, summer, autumn and winter as the Earth completes a revolution around the Sun?

In the Gospels themselves, Jesus clearly mentions the end of the world, not in terms of the end of the planet, but in terms of THE END OF AN AGE, therefore in terms of time. (Greek: TE SYNTELEIA TOU AIONOS). Aionos or Aion meaning “era” or “age”. And he relates it to the selection and renewal of humanity, clearly alluding to a new beginning. See for example gospel of Matthew 13: 40-43).

Now we can ask ourselves: is there a connection between the alleged end of the world in 2012 and the different zodiacal ages: the Age of Pisces, the Age of Aquarius… which follow one after the other until they complete a large cycle of time or Sidereal Year (also called Platonic Year).

Can we disregard the profound study of the zodiacal ages and their influence on the planet earth and humanity?

The sages of antiquity were well aware of them.

2012 – 7 Reasons Why the World Ends on December 21 – 2012

Scientists around the globe agree and are unanimously predicting that “life on Earth as we know it” could end on or around December 21st, 2012. Amongst them, several believe that it will be invoked by humans, but the majority is convinced that nature in a universal way will be the cause of the dramatic changes. Several religious leaders worldwide however are stating that it will be an act of God and that Judgment Day will come upon us at that time. Whichever theory you tend to follow, it is remarkable for once that all visions are on the same wavelength as to the impact on mother Earth. These are seven reasons why scientists and non-fiction predictors are convinced that the world as we know it will end on December 21st, 2012:

Reason #1 – The End of the Mayan Calendar:
The oldest and most researched source of the end was derived from the Mayan Calendar that indicates that times end on this day. The Mayans are considered a highly intelligent race who must have possessed far developed technologies which to date nobody alive can even start to comprehend. They were also a bloodthirsty race and some of their key characteristics involved building highly accurate astrological equipment out of stone and sacrificing virgins.
Not only did they live in an era immediately before the previous major global event, about 11,500 years ago, they were able to calculate the lunar moon as 329.53020days, only 34 seconds off.
The Mayan calendar has set the end of the Earth on December 21, 2012. Their prediction is to be taken serious as at that time, the accuracy of calculating the lunar moon so close, the likelihood of their calculation being accurate yet again is extremely high.

Reason #2 – Sun Storms:
The media in general does not like to cover topics that are hard to explain, except for some of the supernatural channels that are rarely visited by the self-claimed “realistic” viewers. However scientists are on the ball when it comes to observing the sun and its activities with the relatively high-tech equipment we know today. And they have made a mesmerizing discovery when it comes to its activities lately. Few years ago, the sun dramatically increased its radiation energy to levels much higher than registered in a long time. Its behavior definitively is cyclic and there is a clear 11+ year recurring cycle. Now, a couple of years after the last serious activity increase, 2012 announces the height of the 11+ years cycle announcing much higher activity than already measured in recent years.
Since the recent storms already accounted for knocking out power grids and destroying satellites, there is a very clear indication that the next round in 2012 will be of previously unseen magnitude impacting our planet and the technology in orbit of it. Calculations suggest it will reach its deadly peak sometime late in 2012.

Reason #3 – The European Atom Smasher:
European Scientists are finalizing the construction of the world’s largest particle accelerator ever conceived. To describe it in simplified terms, it consists of a 27 kilometers tunnel designed to smash atoms together in the anticipation of finding out what makes the Universe tick.
With reason, this mega-project has already caused serious concerns where several renowned scientists have expressed their deep concerns about flipping the ON-switch. Amongst their predictions of all kinds of lethal events, mini black holes are probable to be created. Chances are that the first mega-experiment with this latest invention may turn the globe into a matter no bigger than the size of a basketball.
Oh…that first experiment is scheduled for…2012.

Reason #4 – According to Religion
Several religions are giving us similar indications and predictions based on, amongst others, interpretations of the Bible, the I Ching (also known as the Chinese Book of Changes), as well as various sections within the Hindu teachings. All of them indicate the 21st of December 2012 as the end of the world. The Bible reveals this as the date of the Armageddon or the final battle between good and evil as well as Judgment Day.
It is expected that in the coming time as we approach D-Day, that more religious figures will speak up and lift the secrecy well kept by institutes such as the Vatican.

Reason #5 – Most Powerful Volcano on Earth
The largest volcano on earth is located underneath the Yellowstone National Park in the United States which is famous for its thermal springs and Old Faithful geyser. This fact has gotten geological experts very nervous and the reason for sleepless nights ever since it was linked to the upcoming events in 2012. The Yellowstone volcano has a pattern of erupting approximately every 650,000. Currently we are many years past the due date for a new major eruption, which in itself is rather bizarre since the cyclic events of the planet are usually pretty accurate and thus predictable. An new explosion will fill the atmosphere with ash, blocking the sun and plunging the Earth into a frozen winter that could last up to 15,000 years. Such a new Ice Age is due when looking at the usual cycles of Earth. And what is most alarming is that the pressure under the Yellowstone is building steadily, and geologists have set 2012 as a likely date for the big bang.

Reason #6 – The Physicists
Physicists at Berkeley University in the United States who use super computers to complete their highly complex formulas and calculations have been crunching the numbers and they’ve concluded as well that the Earth is well overdue for a major catastrophic event. Their calculations prove beyond any doubt that if and when this catastrophe happens, it will impact every living being on Earth and basically wipe away entire species as we know them today. What is really scary about their calculations is the fact that they are pretty much convinced, with a certainty of 99% that all of this will come down very soon and that the best guess date is…2012.

Reason #7 – Polar Shift
The magnetic field surrounding Earth shields us from most of the sun’s radiation. This is generally know, yet what is less known is that the magnetic poles we call north and south have a habit of swapping places approximately every 750,000 years. Right the cycle is overdue by about 30,000 years.
Furthermore, scientific research has shown that the poles are drifting apart roughly 20 to 30 kilometers every year, which is much faster than ever before, and which points to a pole-shift being very nearby. During the process of a pole shift, the magnetic field is disrupted until it disappears. Sometimes it is absent for up to 100 years. As a result, there is sufficient UV radiation in the air to crisp your skin in seconds, killing everything it touches.

2012 Doomsday: Fact Or Fiction?

Throughout time, several people have proposed specific dates in which the world as we know it would end. Most of these days have come and gone, but one day in particular still rings out. You see as many have heard of Y2K and other times of assured Armageddon, perhaps the most discussed and consistent date has yet to arrive. December 21, 2012 is the date that so many people in the past have predicted to be the end. So the question must be asked, 2012 Doomsday Fact or Fiction?

The most popular starting point for the predictions of 2012 rests with the ancient Mayan culture. Their elaborate grasp of mathematics and the movement of the parts of the solar system suggest their knowledge was well beyond its time. They designed a calendar that has been on point with various changes and happenings in space.

This same calendar mysteriously ends on December 21, 2012 with no explanation. Some say it is the calendar simply starting over at 1, while others feel as though they ended it to symbolize the end of the world.

In roughly 2900 B. C., the I Ching or Book of Change was also credited with an eerie calculation to December of 2012. This came in the form of a graph created using patterns from the I Ching; Terrance McKenna created the graph itself. This graph’s peaks have so far corresponded to various changes in the world; it too mysteriously stops in 2012.

Yet another source convincing people of impending doom in 2012 is the Web Bot. This software is designed to calculate through discussions and general behavioral trends potential changes in the world. The software was actually developed to assist in predicting the fluctuation of the stock market. Its notoriety began when it predicted to a fair degree of accuracy the events of 9/11. Now, it predicts a worldwide calamity in 2012.

Some scientists believe, that if all the planets were to line up in a straight line, this would create a huge black hole in the middle of the Milky Way. Oh, did I mention that the Mayans predicted such an event on the last day or their calendar? Or that our scientists believe its going to happen in 2012 too?

You can spend hours online looking at everyone’s proof that the world is going to end in 2012. To be fair, there have been hundreds of days that people have sworn was to be the end of the world, and yet here we are. For every argument, someone has a sensible counter point. The Mayan calendar, many believe it to be starting over, and not ending. The Web Bot, while it might have predicted things like 9/11, has been wrong many times.

For every doomsday theory, especially those surrounding 2012, there is an equal argument on either side of the coin. The truth is you need to decide if you believe it to be true or not, and if you do, you should prepare yourself how best you see fit.

Book On 2012 – Books That You Should Look Into

Some say we are currently at the time which has been foretold and waited for many centuries. A time wherein all predictions about the end of times, the apocalypse, the end of age – whatever you choose to call it – will soon converge. If this claim is true, he have no way of validating it than with a good, truthful book on 2012.

There have been plenty of 2012 books written and plenty more are expected to be written and published as 2012 approaches. But the best books so far about this subject are those that have been around for ages.

The Holy Bible.

The Bible has an unblemished record of fulfilled predictions and prophecies. The Old and the New Testament both provide prophecies that have been fulfilled before and others that are yet to be revealed.

The Old Testament, for example, predicted the coming of the Messiah. All these have been revealed as true when Jesus Christ was born. The Bible also prophesies about the Second Coming of Jesus Christ, complete with descriptions about the events leading up to His Second Coming and the establishment of the New Jerusalem. To the believers, the prophecies that have been written down are being fulfilled one by one and many more will be revealed in the not so distant future.

Although the Holy Bible does not set a specific date for the Second Coming – for the day and the hour is not known – it says that we should watch for the sign of the fig tree (Israel). When its leaves start to come out, we should understand that the end is near.

Pope Leo XIII’s Prediction and the Prophecy of the Popes According to St. Malachy.

Known for its accuracy, the Prophecy of the Popes is a text attributed to the St. Malachy. It describes the last 122 popes that will rule the Roman Catholic Church – beginning from the pontificate of Pope Celestine II whose papacy began in 1143 and ending with the papacy of Petrus Romanus or Peter the Roman, the final pope of the Church.

If the prophecies of St. Malachy were right, the current pope, Pope Benedict XVI is the second to the last before the Roman Catholic Church ends.

Pope Leo XIII, too had his predictions pertaining to our age. Pope Leo XIII, too had a vision about the apostasy within the Catholic Church which will happen 500 years after his vision occurred.

On a less religious note, the succeeding books reveal something more dismal about the end of times.

Nostradamus and the Nostradamus Vatinicia Code.

Nostradamus was made famous or infamous by his dire predictions, which many believe have started to unfold ages and ages ago and will end in the not so distant future. In 1994, a book entitled Nostradamus Vatinicia Code was found to contain prophetic images about the coming end of times. These depict the events leading up to the eventual demise of our age.

The Prophecies of Mother Shipton, the Prophecies Of Merlin Or the Prophetiae Merlini, the Sibylline Prophecies, the Hopi Prophecies, the Hopi Prophecies and the Maya Long Count Calendar.

Much has been said about these prophecies and predictions and books have been written about them for centuries. Look up a book on 2012 that covers any of these startling prophecies.

Surviving 2012 & Planet X – What You Should Know About It

Although there are plenty of evidence to suggest that there would be cataclysms in 2012, the prophets and seers of ancient days told us nothing about how exactly these are going to be happen. So how does one go about surviving 2012 & Planet X?

The Mayas, with the aid of the highly precise Long Calendar, predicted that our age – the current age – will meet its end on the last winter solstice of 2012 – on December 21. Nostradamus who, during the Middle Ages, predicted a dire future that many say will befall our age went so far as putting his predictions into drawings – which are found in the Lost Book of Nostradamus – but gave no precise date as to when all this will unfold. The Hopi trib, which is touted for their accurate prophecies, passed down through oral traditions predictions about the coming ending of our age – the fourth age. St. Malachy’s Prophecy of the Popes which accurately predicted the succession of future popes of the Roman Catholic Church is now coming to a close with the forthcoming ending of Pope Benedict XVI’s term, the second to the last pope before Petrus Romanus.

And let us not forget the prophecies written in the Holy Bible about the Second Coming of Christ, which provides details about the warning signs of His coming but does not give the exact hour or day.

All the prophecies, predictions and warnings provide us everything we need to know about our imminent future but not exactly the exact recommendations we need to ensure our survival. Thus it is up to our best judgment.

Common sense tells us to store as much provision as we can, to make our preparations as best as they can be made, and to run to the safest locations we can find. But who can run away when the whole world is flipping on its axis? When a massive planetary body – perhaps Planet X as ZetaTalk’ and Sitchin’s believers suggest – come hurling down to Earth at a speed that can send mankind to his extinction? Who can hide from the solar flares that can vaporize anything at their course? And who can survive earthquakes, the eruption of volcanoes, and a nuclear winter that threaten to erupt when the Earth becomes chaotic?

Perhaps, no one can live to tell all this.

Its back to survival at its worst, some people suggest. The primitive human nature will kick in and man will have to face is worst enemies – his fellow man. Even if you survive, you will face the horrors of surviving yet another day with people who will do anything to live.

But, the prophecies of long ago give us hope. What they tell us is that these will signal the end of the world as we know it, the end of our age, of our millennia.

Surviving 2012 & Planet X may prove very difficult for anyone who will survive the initial cataclysm, although not possible. But of much heavier concern is the survival of mankind as the cataclysms happens. Flee to the mountains, commands the Bible. Perhaps, it is to our best interest to pay attention.

Polar Reversal NASA – What NASA Thinks About A Pole Reversal

Doomsday prophecies are not a new concept, they have been around since the time before Christ and perhaps even farther back. The wide scale revival of doomsday prophecies have been experienced recently, though. But what do expert organizations and institutions believe about these prophecies, which according to many, will occur anytime soon. More importantly, what is NASA’s take on the alleged polar reversal NASA?

First things first, is it likely for a polar shift to occur?

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, it is not. However, it is possible with our friendly neighborhood star, the Sun.

As for our own planet, this phenomenon still remains questionable. Evidence are yet to be found to truly prove that the polar shift have, indeed, happened and will again happen. Even with our Sun, the flip is only geomagnetic in nature. This means that the magnetic North and South poles exchange positions but their geographical locations remain static. This phenomenon is actually a regular occurrence which happens at the end of each solar cycle – approximately every 11 years. The previous cycle ended in 2001, another is expected to occur in 2012.

Of great interest about this magnetic pole reversal is that this phenomenon happens to our planet as well. Earth’s magnetic field also flips, although at a very irregular interval. The last magnetic polar shift occurred some 780,000 to 790,000 years ago, another is about to happen sometime in the very near future.

Anyone who understands the idea behind the compass is familiar with the magnetic poles in the northern and southern ends of the Earth. Based on the findings of NASA’s Magnetic Field Satellite and various scientific records, the current state of our planet’s magnetic hangs by a thread. It has been this way since more than a century ago in which period the Earth’s magnetic shield has been weakening by as much as 10%. Another study suggests that in the past, Earth had shifted some 6 degrees over a period of one day.

If trends can be used as parameters, scientists believe that we are fast approaching another magnetic pole shift, but not a pole shift in which the North or South Poles will switch locations with other continents on the Earth.

Disruption of catastrophic scale may alter the way life goes on our planet. Migratory animals and birds, both in the seas and on land, may experience disorientation. Our planet, itself, may be stripped off the protective field that shield us from destructive cosmic rays and planetary bodies. And if the Earth’s crust is displaced, we may, as many theorist predict, plunge into the oceans. Entire cities, specifically those cities whose elevations are not sufficient to save them from global tsunamis, may be engulfed by water, leaving no trace of their previous existence. Even our very civilization may hangs by a thread. Our civilization could be likened with the city of Atlantis, engulfed by the seas, and forever lost.

We can expect to have another polar reversal NASA, although not the type that many fanatics and believers and doomsday prophecies believe. When it happens, and many believe it will happen, many strange things may start occurring. What these would be? No one knows for certain.

2012 Doomsday Planet X – When Can We Expect It To Happen

Millennia have gone since the ancient prophets and seers wrote down what they saw into the future, which many believe refer to our age. St. Malachy and his Prophecy of Popes is coming to a close with the institution of Pope Benedict XVI, the second to the last pope of the before Roman Catholic Church the City of Rome becomes fully destroyed. Speaking of the Catholic Church, the Bible too has provided us clues about our future. With a perfect record of fulfilled prophecies, the Holy Bible once again predicts through the Book of Revelations the Second Coming of Jesus Christ which many people say will happen in the not so distant future.

And let us not forget the prophecies of the greatest seer, possibly of all time, whose prophecies withstand 500 years after they were first written down – Nostradamus. Even the present technology provides us clues about our imminent future through a prophetic computer program called the Web-Bot Project.

And with less than credible predictions, the fanatics of the Planet Nibiru theory claims that the end of the world is indeed at hand.

But then again, no prophecy or seer – ancient or current – claimed that the world will cease to exist. All that was ever prophesied is that this current age will end and a new beginning for mankind will be ushered in. Although we first have to go through the birth pains of the transition.

There will be wars and rumors of wars. Stars and other heavenly bodies will be fall down the sky. Total darkness will shroud the Earth and carnage, death and terror will sap pout the life out of every living soul. Signs will also be appearing in the stars, the moon, and the skies. And many lives will be claimed by floods, famines and earthquakes.

These are all indications that the 2012 doomsday Planet X – the end of our age – is, indeed, near. Call it coincidence, but the fact that all these were written at different periods of time, in separated civilizations reveal something striking – the odds are high that we won’t be here for long.

2012 doomsday Planet X is far from entertaining. It foretells the coming destruction of our present age with scenarios that could possibly send mankind to extinction. But hope remains, read about the details of these prophecies on my website.

But then again, it is always possible that Lieder is still correct and Sitchin is wrong. There have been suggestions from many experts that this Planet X was already found by the NASA. And more from them, the government has been hiding the truth because of chaos it can bring to the people due to the many possible worldwide scary catastrophes expected to occur.

Mass extinction and total destruction are said to be the catastrophes should collision or coming near of the Planet X against the Earth happens. If the theory about the calculation of the Planet X orbit 2012 is correct, then it is possible too that those other 2012 theories are not mere fictions. They could happen, everything from polar shifting to comet explosions.

If the Planet X succeeded in getting its orbit the right alignment with the Sun and the Earth, there will be total destruction. If the Planet X orbit 2012 does not succeed in getting the right alignment, the Earth will be possibly saved though. The Mayan calendar may say the world ends in 2012 (well it may really not, says new research, but thats besides the point) The Mayan calendar also says the world began in 3,114 B.C.

If they can't get the beginning of the Earth even close to accurate, how the heck are the going to predict the end of the world!?

The Mayan calendar is cyclical. their "December 31" happens to fall on our literal December 21, 2012. after that, the calendar resets. this is not the first calendar cycle the Mayans have in their records, and it certainly isn't the last.

The Jewish calendar is on a seven and 50 year cycle (with every 50th year being the year of Jubilee). does that mean that the world will end after the next Jubilee celebration? Or does it simply mean the calendar will reset and go back to year one, much the same way the annual Gregorian calendar goes back to January first?

The Chinese calendar is on a 12 year cycle. Every 12 years, the calendar goes back to the year of the rat.

The Mayan calendar works the same way. it just takes a lot longer to reset.

Technically, it just referring to a new age of enlightenment starting up (there have been previous ages if i am correct), and their calendars are very accurate to what they predict, so people seeing that their calendar ends there, without taking the time to research, automatically say IT MUST BE THE END OF THE WORLD!!!

Because they do not want to read how the Bible declares the end will begin on may 21 2011. I have seen this study and I testify that it is true.

There is so much fear being generated by the 2112 Prophecies . On  the History channel on TV keeps showing the world being destroyed in horrible ways. Hollywood gives us more horror and fear ending where we are all destroyed in scary ways. but that is just Hollywood.  The Dec. 21, 2012 will be no different than the year 2000 fear promotion brought us. It is simply the ending of the cycle of the calendar. It ends every 5126 years. a new cycle and calendar will start.

Yes thing are in a state of chaos on the planet at this time. That is a natural occurence when there is a change of cycles. There are things we need to do but there is no need for fear. The shift began in 1992 (many say it was the Harmonic Convergence of 1987.) The Mayans say that there is a 40 year period during which things fall apart and then rebuild into something new.  We are in that change period.

Mother earth has been abused, polluted and totally disregarded by modern man. The perception is that the earth is a dead thing that is here for us to subjugate and plunder.  That is not true.  The old cultures realized that the earth is very much alive and what we do to it, we do to ourselves. We could not exist without her help. Mother Earth is alive and rebelling at how we treat her. That is why we are having all the cleansing storms, the floods, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions and more. We need to shift our perspective and start giving back to her instead of just taking from her.

The green movement is a part of that shifting perspective. As for the Mayans; they believed that the Earth was flat and had 4 corners. they also believed that the sky was held up by 5 large trees each one a different color, and believed the Earth rested on the back of a giant crocodile! they worshiped the SUN god!

Japanese officials told the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) that the spent fuel storage area had caught fire and that radioactivity was “being released directly into the atmosphere.”

After the fire was extinguished, a Japanese official said the spent fuel pool might still be boiling, though the reported levels of radiation had dropped dramatically by evening.

Like the 2010 movie 2012. Can we survive? I know everyone says that its not the end. but i don't know which side to choose if its the end or not.

You know the movie was fiction, right? Complete fabrication.

2012 is not the end of the world, it is the end of the Mayan calendar, which most people don't ever pay attention to. but if they did, they'd know it's just like the end of the calendar that hangs in your home. Once it's through, you start over. With January, that is, at least in the case of our Gregorian Calendars.

I find it interesting that anyone would be scared of a supposed end to the world when they'd not even bothered to read up on it.

I get what you are saying-Ive been doing some research and some of the people predicting or saying something will happen are saying yes others no. so if they dont know neither do we. Ive watched this show on the history chaneel about dec 21 2012 and they looked very convinsed. what i think about this- I think they should stop scaryring people until they know 100% about the date. and yes i think we can survive if something happens. but not everyone will survive

Good people can. but, I don't research much on doomsday theories anymore. I'm more focused on the paranormal. but, the world is getting worse now. Suddenly, there were a lot of large earthquakes (I'm not talking about 7-8 earthquakes, but in general, like 5 magnitude earthquakes) since 2010 started.

Let me tell you a secret… People thought that world was going to end about 10 more times before this. Don't worry about this, this is bull. I know how every one is buzzing up about how the Mayans or Aztecs (I forget that part) predicted this, but they were the ones who got wiped out later. it's not going to happen, people worry too much. even if something does happen, life goes on. If something would happen to me tomorrow, life would still go on and wouldn't stop.

Ive heard about Y2 and the 2005 scenario but do you believe the earth will come to an end? In the back of my mind im scared because i wont even graduate by then sometimes i say no but all the tv shows about “Doomsday” makes me think otherwise

The TV shows are billed as ‘entertainment’ although they masquerade as documentaries. they are in the business of pulling in viewers and if they can do that with old footage of floods and storms plus lots of sensationalistic nonsensical predictions, then that’s what they will broadcast, even though it has little connection with reality.
2012 is entirely made up by a bunch of new-age weirdos and woo-woos who all like to make out that they’re some sort of prophet in order to have people take notice of them. all their claims of doomsday are complete nonsense – and I do mean all.
The people you should be taking notice of are scientists and they say nothing will happen.

The date of 2012 is a real phenomenon unlike anything that has come before. It’s real, and this is already seen today as events fall in line on the nightly news. 2012 is the “end of the world”, but that isn’t the misuse of world as planet. the true meaning of the term world translated means “age of man”. SO many people in France believe that the world is about to end that a government agency today alerted the country to the risk of mass suicides by converts to prophesies of imminent Armageddon.

Natural disasters, the internet and French fears of economic doom are lending credence to predictions that the planet will self-destruct on December 21, 2012, said Miviludes, the government body that monitors cults and suspicious spiritual activities.

There have been 183 false predictions of the end of the world since the Roman Empire collapsed and these are multiplying with new technology and a global climate of fear, it added.

In the US, doomsday radio preacher Harold Camping received global publicity by predicting that the Rapture would occur may 21. When the day passed uneventfully, Camping offered a new date, October 21, for the end of the world.

The 2012 prediction, based on the end of the 5000-year Mayan calendar, has taken root around the world but nowhere does it seem to have been as widely embraced as France, The (London) Times reported.

The government is worried about a rush of converts to Bugarach, a hilltop village in the southwest that is destined to survive judgment day, according to internet rumours.

Miviludes chairman Georges Fenech visited the area between Perpignan and Carcassonne last week to be briefed by the police intelligence service and local officials on the gurus, disciples, magicians, healers and others who have arrived to await next year’s expected Apocalypse. The village, which is said to be a haven for UFOs, was besieged by Armageddon tourists on Monday, the Pentecost holiday.

Mr Fenech, a judge and former lawmaker, dismissed the prophesies as a "hodgepodge of bad astrophysics" but added that Apocalypse fever is no laughing matter.

He recalled "the horror of the dramas which cults have caused in recent years with their doctrines that provoke extreme anxiety."

The most recent involving France was a series of 74 suicides in the late 1990s in France, Switzerland and Canada by devotees of the Order of the Solar Temple.

The fascination for Apocalypse theories fits with the mood of gloom that has engulfed France over the past decade. Opinion polls regularly highlight the country as one of the most pessimistic in the world.

A lot of different disasters have been happening to the Earth lately. Massive earthquakes, super typhoons, global warming, floods, and even other severe crisis and disasters have been shaking up people’s view about the state of our beloved planet. some say these events are signs that all point to the Year 2012 Apocalypse.

Many different points of views that all point towards this major event have been causing a wave of panic and unrest among many. People have started asking many questions regarding the 2012 prophecies and are trying to find out if this will really be the end of the world as we know it.

It is hard to determine what is true and what is a hoax. It’s hard to verify fact from fiction with the many websites spreading rumours, viral campaigns, and doomsday movies? Can this widespread panic be a cause of genuine fear, or is it just a product of man’s power to manipulate facts for their own personal gain? it is a sad fact that people are getting more and more restless in their search for answers.

If you take a closer look at the facts you will find out that Science, Religion, and even parts of History all believe that the earth as we know it will come to an end in 2012. the Bible, Nostradamus, the Mayans, and even countless scientific theories all provide speculations about the year 2012 Apocalypse.

So the big question is: will the world really end 2012? some say apocalypse 2012 will take place, others say it won’t. some have their Faith to hold onto, while others turn to Science for answers. one acceptable answer to the big question is that it will depend on the amount of energy of the Earth. This theory is based on the second Law of Thermodynamics which justifies the possibility of Heat Death or the eventual stopping of the mechanical movement of the Earth due to its total and irreversible loss of energy.

Whichever way people choose to look at it, one simple truth really matters, and it’s that all good things must come to an end. And if God made all things “good”, then maybe it’s just a matter of time before the earth comes to an end too.

Sometimes, answers to seemingly hard questions are just right at our fingertips. maybe the end of the world doesn’t really rely on the cycles or movements of Comets, or Mayan beliefs, or even the wrath of God. maybe the coming of the Apocalypse is an unavoidable fact that everyone has deal with whether they like or not, and that the end of human existence whether it be in some days or in 2012, will only depend on the way Man takes care of our world.

2012 According to the Mayan Calender

Supposedly, the Mayan calendar predicts that the end of the world or something as significant as that will occur on December 21, 2012. This is based on the fact that the Mayan calendar ends exactly on that date. The conclusion is that the ancient Mayans did not project their calendar beyond that date implying that somewhat there is no point for doing so because beyond that date, there would be no use for the calendar anymore perhaps because by then, the world would have ended.

I consider this baseless on at least two grounds: common sense and the credibility of the source of the prophecy. On the ground of common sense, it is of course certain that the Mayan astronomers who calculated the calendar would have to end somewhere in their calculation. In theory they could have gone on and on and calculated a million year calendar. But would they do that? That would have been impractical and a plain waste of time and effort. they just had to stop at some date and it happened to be a date corresponding to December 21, 2012 in our modern calendar. it could have been 11 January 2014, 30 November 2016, and any other date of your choice. If the Mayan astronomers stopped their projected calendar on 30 November 2016, I suppose the doomsday prophets would equally be saying now that the end of the world will be on November 30, 2016.

On the second ground, what credibility do the Mayans have in the first place? they had a degenerate civilization characterized by genocidal tribal wars and human sacrifices as part of their religious worship. these probably contributed to their complete destruction. they simply vanished from history. If the Mayans were not even able to predict the complete demise of their culture and civilization, why would you ascribe to them the ability to predict the future of the world?

In spite of this, however, the feeling of foreboding is something that is very difficult to eradicate specially in these times when we are faced with a lot of uncertainties as to where the world really is heading. Consider the impact of climate change, for example, and how it will impact the earth within the next few decades. Consider the not so remote possibility that one of these days, a giant comet or meteor may just hit the earth with devastating consequences. these are all scientific facts or possibilities and we cannot just discount the possibility that indeed, the end of the world as we know it is not a far flung possibility.

Tied up with the scientific scenario is the curious fact that quite a number of prophecies are all asserting the coming end of the world, somewhat in the near future. Foremost among these prophecies is no less that the much awaited second coming of Christ among Christians which is supposed to be accompanied by worldwide upheavals, an event that can likewise be equated to the “end of the world.”

What if in the end, all of the above jibe and indeed, we are now in a countdown for something big and earthshaking that might occur soon as we approach December 21, 2012? Well, there is really nothing much we can do about that. But it is something good to be aware of and be psychologically prepared for whatever may come on that date.

Much has been said, written, and speculated about what is really going to happen in the year 2012. This year, and specifically, the date December 21, 2012 has been said to have great significance in the Mayan calendar. This is the date that has brought about much conversation and fear that it will be the final day of Earth’s existence. It is said to be a prophecy, since the Mayan calendar ends on this date. The fact that the Mayan calendar terminates on such an arbitrary date prompts many to believe that Mayan predictions foresaw the end of the world coming long before anyone else.

The Mayan Long Count Calendar is a rather peculiar calendar, and it’s easy to see why the Mayan predictions are believable based on how the calendar is structured. It starts on August 11, 3114 BC, marked as the creation of the world by the Mayans. This creation date is written 0.0.0.0.0 in the Mayan representation. The first digit represents the *baktun, and each baktun lasts exactly 144,000 days, or 394.3 solar years. every digit except the second from the right rolls back to 0 on the 20th iteration; the remaining digit rolls back to 0 after 18th iteration. The 13th baktun, which we are currently in, started on September 18, 1618.

The calendar rolls over to the 14th baktun on December 21, 2012-a cycle that would have lasted 5,125 years from the beginning. according to the Mayans, this is called the Great Cycle. perhaps the Mayan predictions pointed to something even bigger, called the precession of the equinoxes. The earth’s axis of rotation moves very slowly, making one complete rotation every 26,000 years. This is given as a plausible reason for why the Mayans ended their calendar on that date in 2012, because this not only is this the date for the winter solstice, but the Earth will complete its precession on that day as well.

The Mayans were technologically advanced for their time. They were extremely proficient in mathematics, which would make setting such a date seem plausible, even if it seems rather arbitrary to the layperson. But should we be concerned about December 21, 2012? will mass destruction and polar shifts occur, much like what we’ve seen in the movies? Chances are that we’ll probably wake up that day and it’ll be just like any other day, and much like the fervor around Y2K, this might be all for naught. as we approach that supposedly fateful day, the Mayan prophecies will be in the back of everyone’s minds.

I just barely graduated high school and I am worried about this whole "end of the world" prediction in 2012. I have read A lot about the mayan calendar and I have not seen where they have said its the end of the world on a certain day. in fact, Ive read we have already gone through a great cycle before and nothing happened. why are people so worried this time? Can anyone please answer this, so I can live my life and not worry? Thank you

that is the last day recorded on the calender, now people consider this a sign that it will be the apocalypse.
But how many times have people freaked out about the end of the world? a lot. that's how much

I just spent 4 weeks up and down the Yucatan and met many Mayans. I was curious as to what their ancestors had told them about the end of the calendar. the Maya people never looked at it as the end of the world but more a time of great trial and turbulence on earth, somewhat of a turning point where we either go down a dark path or towards a brighter future. I don`t mean to contribute to you anxiety, but in my opinion we don`t seem to be laying the groundwork for a brigher future. However it won`t all end on a certain day. it will take time, and hopefully you`ll have a long and healthy life before it gets real bad.

Their dates may be reliable, but it bets the question: what will happen? they did not predict the end of the world. the calendar of the Mayans is based on something, right? Some say it's an alignment with the center of the galaxy. Some feel there may be a correction of the precession of the earth's axis.. Either one would be harmless by itself. the original Mayan codex was destroyed by the Spanish hundreds of years ago.

No, they simply stopped their calendar there, before disappearing off the face of the Earth, as a race. I hate to contradict another answerer, but there are no Mayan descendants that we can positively say are Mayan. What they may or may not have known, is that the Earth will be at the exact center of the Milky Way galaxy on that date. the magnetic forces will be tremendous. there is the possibility that we could draw in space debris, large or small. anything from asteroids to comets. I don't know if you give this information any credibility, but the Bible Codes predict a large comet hitting the Earth, not in whole, but in pieces, in 2012. Also the I-Bot, the collective data that is used to predict events based on the worldwide web, also predicts something catastrophic for that date, as does the I-Ching predictions, which may or may not have any teeth to them. Personally, I'm a skeptic, but it's food for thought. they experts agree that something will happen as a result of the magnetic forces, like the Earth's magnetic poles could shift, we know it can do that because it's done it before; but I look at the fact that this happens every twenty-eight thousand years or so, and that the Earth is four point five billion years old. It's already happened a lot of times, you do the math. We're still here. I'm not gonna lose any sleep over it. there is nothing I can do about it, at any rate. One thing is certain, and that is that people will cash in on any panic that may be generated out of ignorance, people always see dollar signs whenever there is any kind of panic. take care.

The Mayan calendar ends in 2012. some say the "end of the world" big Deal. I will admit i heard something about a NEAR MISS collition with an asteriod.

I would call it silly if so many people were not getting scared about it.

One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. the next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world.

Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) end of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers have been touting the 2012 end of the World scenario. when 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.

"But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. be watchful! be alert! you do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:32-33)

Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.

The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.

The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.

Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

We just don't know when the earth will end. Science is always changing, a good clue to us that we can't depend on it. look to the Bible and God with any questions you have. it gives clues, but there is no way to know for sure.

You will always have those people that will think it is just a bunch of nonsense, they believe that it is just an old story that has been told over and over and has gotten blown out of proportion. After all there have been a few other times that the world was supposed to end but it never happened. so what is so different about 2012? There are many theories that think something big is going to happen in the year 2012. Some believe a polar shift and solar changes are a real possibility. 12-21-2012, or December 21 2012 is a date associated with the end of the world. this date, 12-21-2012, comes mainly from the long count of the Mayan calendar. the Mayans for reasons unknown were very advanced in the study of astronomy. their calendar is really several calendars in one. the calendar known as the long count is the one that notes 12-21-2012 as the end of the earth as we know it.

The reason for this date is pretty complicated. on December 21, 2012 or 12-21-2012, for the first time in 26000 years, the sun will conjunct the milky way, and the elliptical plane.

There are many theories as to what exactly will happen on 12-21-2012. many feel that solar flare activity will increase dramatically and that a huge solar flare will strike the earth causing destruction. other theories include the earth being struck by a mystery planet or asteroid known as planet x. Still other speculations say that the earths wobble on its axis, will cause drastic changes in the earths weather and atmosphere causing mass destruction by elements such as tidal waves. though there are many diverse theories, many experts agree that “something” will happen in 2012.

Most people have heard about the “2012 Doomsday Prediction.” According to the Mayan Calendar, the end date of the world is December 21, 2012. What’s even more shocking is that the Mayans aren’t the only people to predict the End of Days. In fact, several cultures from around the World have all predicted that a major catastrophe will occur – on that exact same date! if these predictions are correct, what can you do to get ready to survive Doomsday 2012?

There are several theories as to what exactly will occur on December 21, 2012. Some people feel it will be a new beginning rather than an apocalyptic event. New Age spiritualists believe that humanity will undergo a positive spiritual transformation, and that the end of the Mayan Calendar signifies the beginning of a new era for mankind. We will all move forward into the “Fifth Age of Man” in peace and harmony.

The absolute worst case 2012 Doomsday prediction is that of a cosmic collision. a large meteor, asteroid, comet, or even planet smashes into the Earth – causing the mass extinction of humanity. the sheer force of the impact would be enough to knock the Earth off its axis, causing a complete polar shift to take place. Dust from the fallout would block out the sun, leading to severe climate change and nuclear winter. it is theorized that an event of this magnitude would have a 95-100% mortality rate.

No one knows for sure which 2012 Doomsday prediction, if any, is the most likely to occur. the Web Bot Project, which is a computer program designed to predict future events based on Internet keyword tracking, has confirmed a “catastrophic event” for 2012. Its prediction is vague, but suggests that the cause will be related to a nuclear event or a reversing of Earth’s magnetic field. Somewhat interesting is the fact that a “data gap” exists in the program from early 2012 until may 2013. This suggests that civilization will be forced back into a pre-electronic state of being during that time frame, possibly due to devastating solar activity.

It is important when we consider the end Times in relation to the Mayan prophecy, that we first understand what the end Times actually are. they have importance both to the three branches of Abrahamic religions (those being Islam, Christianity and Judaism) as well as others who believe that apocalyptic events are near, in a soon to occur Armageddon.

For many cultures this is a period of time that will herald the start of a great deal of tribulation. There will be wars and great destruction before the final coming or return of the messiah. The identity of the messiah changes by culture and faith, but his return is to shepherd his chosen people back into an era of peace as he once again takes up his position as ruler.

Many of the foretold signs of the end times, from many faiths, have been witnessed, and continue today according to these faiths. but how did the Mayans view 2012?

We see that the Mayans referenced events that were to happen beyond this date, so they do not appear to have believed that it would be the end of the world. Yet references were made to dark times, and a god of war who would return at this time, and presumably this would lead to great changes including wars and tribulations. That they reference events at later dates shows that they did not think that this would destroy everything, but presumably that there would be change. this fits the ideas that surround the end Times.

The date is approaching that the current Mayan Long Count calendar is to end and this is the time that the events are set to begin. though we won’t know for sure until it happens, the Mayan prophecies certainly do appear to foretell the end times, but what exactly that will mean for us and what will come beyond the end remains to be seen.

The Aztec calendar 2012 incorporated two different counting systems: the first Aztec calendar 2012 called the Xihuitl, was made up of 18 months, with 20 days each (360 days) with an additional 5 days (called the Nemontemi) tacked onto the end. The other Aztec calendar, the Tonalpohualli, was a ritual Aztec calendar round made up of 20 day signs (with names such as reed, knife, house, rabbit, etc.) set against a “week” of 13 days. The counting would follow the pattern of 1 reed, 2 knife, 3 house, 4 rabbit, etc. This cycle would repeat itself every 260 days. (i.e.. the date 1 reed would appear every 260 days).

Each of these calendrical systems had their purpose. The Xihuitl helped to record seasonal events and annual ceremonies while the Tonalpohualli assisted in divination and various ceremonies. These two calendars ran concurrently and repeating dates would appear only every 52 years (e.g.. the Xihuitl date of 1 Izcalli (the first month) and the Tonalpohualli date of 1 Crocodile would occur only every 18,980 days).

According to the Aztec calendar 2012, the end of the world will be in the exact date of 12/21/2012. at this day all the stars will be lined up and earth will start to change. according to the Aztec calendar in the end of the year 2012 there will be hurricanes, tsunamis, earthquakes and many more destructive phenomenas including asteroids hitting our earth.

This in not just media hype you can see the signs of the end of the world even today. For example the global warming – earth climate is changing a bit everyday, if we will continue to live like that, then by the end of 2012 the world will come to it’s end. I thought end of world predictions was an area "owned" by Christianity, and promoted to get people to read the bible and donate to Christian charities.. So I wonder how they feel by others encroaching on their "territory". How would Christians feel if signs of the end of the world coming seemed to precede the 2012 date? are they doing anything about it – denouncing it, offering alternative dates or just ignoring it?

2) Most Christians starting with myself know that despite many signs or events, we have been told by Jesus that neither He while on earth nor anyone else knew when the end will come. only the Father in Heaven. Nostradamus Biography

Nostradamus, a French physician and astrologer who became one of the most famous seers of all times was born as Michel de Nostredame in 1503 in the south French town of Saint Remy de Provence. His family was of Jewish origin but converted to Catholicism shortly before his birth due to an anti-Semitic climate in France at the time. Little is known about his early childhood except that he supposedly learned Jewish mystical teachings including Kabbalah from his grandfathers who also taught him classical languages. In 1517, the young Nostradamus went to Avignon to study medicine but he spent only a short time there as the university was closed due to an outbreak of the plague. He continued education at the University of Montpellier and graduated from medicine and astrology in 1525 although some records state that he was expelled from the university for practicing apothecary.

After he graduated from the University of Montpellier, he changed his name into the Latinized version Nostradamus as it was customary for academics in his time. He quickly became famous for his alternative but effective plague treatment that promoted hygiene, fresh air and low-fat diet as well as the so-called rose pill, a remedy made of rosehips that was later shown to be high in vitamin C content. In 1531, he settled in Agen and married to a woman whose identity is uncertain. She bore him two children, however, both his wife and the children are believed to had died from the plague in 1534 which has severely diminished his reputation. In 1538, faced with the charges for heresy he left France. He returned in 1544 and once again focused on helping the plague victims. He quickly restored his reputation as an outstanding doctor, settled in Salon-de-Provence, remarried and started a new family. But at the same time, he began abandoning medicine and devoting more time to occultism. He allegedly spent hours meditating over a brass filled with water and probably some herbs to achieve a state of trance and visions of the future.

By 1550, Nostradamus started publishing his visions of events for the coming year in the Almanacs which were received very well and stimulated the seer to start working on the Centuries as he titled his 10 volume opus of prophecies for the next 2,000 years. He published the first seven volumes in 1555 and quickly became a star throughout France despite the fact that the prophesies were written in rhymed four-line verses which were mostly left to interpretation. It is speculated that he wrote his prophecies the way he did to avoid potential religious persecution. However, his predictions for the future attracted the attention of Catherine de Medici, the wife of the French King Henry II who invited him to the royal court in Paris to tell her more about his visions, especially in regard to the royal family.

It is the prophecy related to the French royal family that made Nostradamus one of the most famous seers of all times. In the Quatrain 35, Volume I, he wrote that The young lion will overcome the older one/ On the field of combat in single battle/ He will pierce his eyes through a golden cage/ Two wounds made one, then he dies a cruel death. Nostradamus is said to warn the French king from any kind of jousting during his 41st year, however, the King ignored the warning and was indeed injured in a jousting tournament. The lance that hit the King through his visor shattered into two pieces, one destroying the Kings eye and the other penetrating deep into his brain. He suffered in agonizing pain for ten days before he died from septicemia in his 41st year.

Nostradamus spent his final years in Salon-de-Provence with his family. He was visited by Catherine de Medici in 1564 when she was once again told the fate of her seven children all of which ended tragically as he predicted. The seer died himself in 1566 from congestive heart failure. On the evening before his death, he allegedly said to his secretary that he would not find him alive at sunrise and the next morning he was found dead on the floor next to his bed.

Anything that fosters a sense of community has a chance to embrace the soul and take the entire human experience to another level. Ultimately, each of us is a blank canvas. Our souls can either bask in giving and receiving, or wither in loneliness and the intangible.
